Thankfully, we have a manager who has suffered some utter **** scenarios trying to get promoted with Mainz twice; i.e. missing out on goal difference (single goal), and by a single victory, before achieving it.Originally posted by Leyton388 View PostIt would be devasting to get 90 plus points and not win it. ****ing cheating Manc ****s
It's all about the long term here, and I already fear if we finish second, some fans will lose their **** in self pity, thinking if we could do that again (large points haul etc).
For me, it's all about building a squad that can challenge year in, year out, and have the mentality to do so. We're going to have to get used to Man City dominating, so that's it. But it's utterly pointless thinking this is the closest we've been in years, because that's acting like it's a once in a generation opportunity to win the league.
It's about ensuring that if we do finish 3rd, or 2nd, the squad doesn't think, 'oh, that's it. Our best chance in a while and we blew it,' but, 'let's go one better next season'.
We've finished 2nd in 02/03, 08/09, and 13/14, faltering big time after that. We've not been able to build upon it. Now, we must do so, and not lose sight of that.

They've played every **** team in the league, beaten a tired Spurs, a disjointed Arsenal and completely changed their shape and approach for a goalless draw against us.Originally posted by Pablo View PostThey got 100 points last season. They look like they're going to do it again. It's unprecedented. How they got there (clearly dodgy) is irrelevant. It's an impossible bar.
If we were hypothetically to get 90+ points this season I'd say that's a "major success" personally.
Feel free to think differently.
I'm not that worried about their form unless they start smashing the likes of Chelsea and Man Utd.Was muß, das muß.

Think about that.

Yep. Last season after 11 league games we already had four draws and two losses to our name.
This season we are keeping pace with the team many call the best in the league, and looking good for a genuine title challenge.
Whether the season is a success or not we can decide come May, but right now we are in the mix and for as long as we are, I will be dreaming of number 19.I don't hate people. I just feel better when they aren't around.

We are keeping pace with a team that's arguably one of the best in the history of top tier football in England.Originally posted by Jaco_Pastorious View Post

Well I didn't say I'd be "celebrating it over the Summer" either. That's daft.Originally posted by Chris View PostIt would be a good haul and unfortunate if it won nothing but there's so much dog **** in this league now a massive points haul should be kind of expected. Won't be celebrating 2nd and 90 points over the summer if it happens but feel free to think differently.
Regards.
It'd be majorly frustrating if it happens.
I don't think expecting a 90+ points total is realistic though either. Teams have only broke 90 points 6 times in the the Premier League era. Each time they've won it.

This is kind of my point. The longer we hang onto them the better our chances. Unfortunately their run in to the end of the year looks easier than ours:Originally posted by The_weatherman View PostWe are keeping pace with a team that's arguably one of the best in the history of top tier football in England.
West Ham (A)
Bournemouth (H)
Watford (A)
Chelsea (A)
Everton (H)
Palace (H)
Leicester (A)
Southampton (A)
Here's ours:
Watford (A)
Everton (H)
Burnley (A)
Bournemouth (A)
Man Utd (H)
Wolves (A)
Newcastle (H)
Arsenal (H)
It's mad, it feels like they-re due a run of tough fixtures, but ours to me look the tougher.
Then we play each other Jan 3rd. If we can still be within a few points of them then, what a massive game that will be.

Hoping Arsenal will be knackered by then, I reckon Emery might hit the problems Klopp did during the X-mas schedule.Originally posted by Pablo View Post

Amazing to think how far we have come in such a short period of time. Under Rafa personally, there was always an element of pretenders to the crown, an element of blagging our way to the big time, but here we are on merit, one of the elite clubs in Europe not based on history but on present performance. We have gone from being happy signing Chelsea cast offs to Players choosing us over Barca and Real, we've over taken Arsenal, United, and you can make a case for Spurs and Chelsea to boot and throughout all this, its been great fun, lead by a man who just makes you smile. Supporting Liverpool right now is pure joy.Anybody who criticizes Klopp ever is a James Blunt. Nov 2015
