I thought the same a while back but him saying he will announce his future after the CL suggested to me that it has been decided, if it was that we were starting discussions about a new contract he would have said that. Likewise if he had already agreed a new contract it would have been announced as a 'pre CL final boost'. I think he's wanting to go somewhere else amd a deal has already been agreed. I think it's been coming for a while that's why we haven't said we are in discussions with him over a new contract. Diaz has been brought in as his replacement. It makes the announcement that Salah's staying at least another year make sense too.

As I say I don't see why they wouldn’t announce it now if that were the case, saying he has signed a new contract isn't really a distraction while announcing he's leaving is a big distraction.
