He has always been decent yes, but imo that Roma game was when he turned it up a few notches and he hasn’t looked back.Originally posted by Assassin View PostThere has been no turning point for Gini. He has always been a fabulous player. Its just taken some people longer than others to see this. The turning point in the game you mentioned was yours

his shooting isn't exactly awesome though.
For me the biggest gap we have in our team is the ability to score from outside the box. If teams sit deep and our intricate passing game isn't on it, then we struggle to break teams down. When we had Gerrard, then he could hurt teams from distance. So could Coutinho.
It is a gap that we all hoped that Keita could fill. Perhaps he still can. Hopefully Oxlade can also.

Shooting low percentage shots outside box should be a last resort, not a tactic. At least poor crosses can cause trouble if they don't find their intended target, but long range shots will just surrender possession the majority of times and allow opposition to waste time and regroup. If we are all only happy when we are really winning in the end, when your race finishes, what life would that be?

If the attack play is more fluid then there can be an opening for a shot. Once the defence forms up into the bus formation it becomes difficult. When we had coutinho (as an example) moving from the left trying to make an opening and looking for a gap to shoot through it was a viable tactic.
If there isnt the gap opening up for a direct shot then a low drive across the box is an option. Even if the initial contact is from a defender one of our attackers can easily pick up the 2nd ball.
Its vital our two advanced midfielders are pressing the edge of the box to retain possession if a defender toe pokes it away, and one of our full backs then gets space to do a John Barnes (get round the back).removing all the weak links makes us stronger
too many gutless players, no beef or desire. pussies everywhere... sack them all.

You don't want to be hitting shots from the edge of the box all the time, as the majority will just surrender possession. But having the option of someone who can hit a few in from 20+ yards changes the way teams defend as they have to negate that option as well as everything else. At the moment teams would probably feel us scoring a long range effort was a fluke. Whereas players like Gerrard and Coutinho could do it regularly and we just don't have that at the moment. The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

I think Origi has an amazing scoring % from outside the box... Among the best in Europe. Tomkins site had a whole article that talked sbout it a month ago or do.
Doesnt help our midfield though... although Harry Wilson certainly has it in his locker. In the beginning, Fowler created the Heaven and the Earth.
