Naby Keita

It's a shame Keita's contract expires next summer because he'd make an excellent bargaining chip for the transfer of Jude Bellingham.
Keita was excellent in Germany and I reckon he'd suit Dortmund to a tee.Was muComment

Why this level of detail for poor Baby, and not Mane? He's missed loads more chances. Some absolute sitters tooThat was me.

I have said what i think of him as a player, I think he is decent but I think it may be time for him to move on. Be happy if he proved me wrong, but how many seasons in a row are we going to say that?
I also quantified why I posted the clip, not to pour scorn on the player but to discuss technique and what he might have done.
What is revealing about it

4 seasons Keita has been here, injured and average. Few decent showings here and there but all in all, it's been massively underwhelming imo. Personally I'll be happy when he goes. That's not me "pouring scorn!!!!" over the poor fragile pro footballer either, I just don't think he isn't anywhere near the level of player we need in our midfield.Comment

For me we need to improve the midfield, I think that this is a long standing issue, partly because of the injury records of the players we have and partly because of the quality / consistency / age issues in the midfield.
While I wouldn't necessarily have been looking to move Keita on, we have reached a point where a decision needs to be made, he is about to enter the last year of his contract, the question is do we want to offer him a new one or not? Offering him a new contract is effectively saying we see you as part of our midfield for the next 3-5 years, be that as a starter or a back up. I don't think he's shown enough consistently to be a regular starter and would probably not represent good value for money as a squad player. To be honest I had assumed we would keep him for another year and let him leave on a free. If there is an offer of order £40-50m on the table that's a good deal for us in my opinion and selling him for that kind of fee seems like a no brainer.
I don't think he's a bad player, he just isn't the player we thought we were signing, he's done ok but never established himself as a regular, I think a move is best for all partiesThe only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.Comment

Good news. As I've said earlier, with the amount of contracts ending, we can't allow them all to leave in 1 shot. If it means Naby getting a 2 year extension, I'm happy as he's still only 27 - has scope to improve (despite what you all say). It allows new younger players to bed in and grow (Carvalho, Elliot). This makes sense.
And also cool to read about you all carry on complaining about him.

No qualms here either
