I was reading that 21m covers the wages too. Something like £11m loan fee and £10m wages.

Haven't got a link to hand but that's what I read.

History should tell you to be cautious. How often do teams get huge points totals in successive years (other than City)

Also the assumption here is that every other team hasnt made additions (like LFC) now its not impossible for us to do a Spurs and improve further without additions but for me its unlikely

I fully expect our points total to be lower than last year

No one is paying 36m for Coutinho for a year with no buy clause written in stone, surely.

Wonder if they’re trying to shaft us and get around the clauses. Loan him out for £20m a season and let him run his contract down that way, then they don’t need to pay us the sell-on.

It's a big loan fee. As Klopp said, massive, massive money. And for whatever reason, that's not happening this summer.

Also factor in FSG policy on transfer clearly is buy young sell for profit later. Coutinho is 27 and that cycle has ended (maybe earlier than ideal) but I can understand the pass nevertheless.

That said in the short term I think he'd work well given he knows our game, players etc. So I'm in the pro camp despite it being a nonrunner.

Over 30, they could actually still start close to 40 even with rotation. Then they have internationals too. That's not enough football in one season?

We can always add strength to the squad. Even if it's only one signing. We've just won the European Cup and still need to improve.

City won the domestic treble and are still upgrading their team.

Stand still and you risk falling behind City again and letting a team like Spurs closer to us.

We showed last season that you can turn around over 20 points against a team in the way we got closer to City.

If you think Spurs landing N'Dombele, and potentially Dybala and Coutinho is not going to give them a chance to replicate that then that's fair enough.

But it's my opinion that we are giving them that chance.

It's utter bollocks from the club to spout about not having money. Our net spend is small against our rivals and we have bigger revenue than most of them.

4 players rotating across the front 3 easily leaves 30+ starts for all of them, across all competitions. That's without including CL knockout stages.

And this would still allow Origi and Brewster some starts too.

Pretty much exactly my thoughts. All the trotted out answers to this summer's activity don't say the squad is perfect, they all have the caveat of, we have to pay the bills, etc. It's an uncomfortable lie IMO.

I'm not sure what the strategy is and we won't know for a few years. It could just be the case that FSG aren't willing to invest but it'd be guesswork to suggest anything really. No one will criticise owners a year after a big summer and winning big ears so they've certainly got PR credit in the bank even if this season doesn't work out.

I don't think there is much of a drop off, bar the front three. Our subs pushed us on another level on Sunday.

As for the front three, these are arguably the best front three in the world. Anyone else would be a drop off.
