Bayern did exactly the same all game, the idea being to pull us forward and make space behind the press. Top sides do it, we do it deliberately as a tactic when we are finding the midfield too congested. The idea is to be good enough in possession and not to panic, then move the ball quickly out of the tight space and use the space that creates. We did it very successfully last year when we were killing teams on the counter.Trey Nyoni: countdown to stardom-2 years1year0.5 years

I get that (well explained btw) but when the ball goes to robbo and his only option is to hoof or play back insde to an already closed down player then you have to think the initial ball to him as not so well thought out...Originally posted by Kenneth View PostBayern did exactly the same all game, the idea being to pull us forward and make space behind the press. Yes but this year the forwards/midfield are not occupying the space created. The amount of times I seen Matip, Fab, Hendo look up and have no options and have to go sideways was too many.Originally posted by Kenneth View PostBayern did exactly the same all game, the idea being to pull us forward and make space behind the press. We missed Fab in midfield as his little short diagonal balls over the top really throws the cat amongst the pigeons when its congested.
Another problem is we are so so narrow at times we are creating our own problems. We need to be a bit more like city (and us in previous season) and really hit that byline with speed (double up on the wings).

You reduced Klopp's role in transfers to merely rubber-stamping the opinions of the Scouting Dept, which is nonsense. Klopp is on the hook for all signings. If Allison and Virgil had been flops signed at world record fees, leading to us still leaking goals and scrambling for a top 4 finish it would be a pretty big data point in assessing whether Klopp had the judgement to be trusted to make proper use of the substantial funds it takes to get top quality players into the club and ultimately lead the club forward.Originally posted by Pepe79 View Post
Identifying new players is a very time consuming and competetive busisness, at the highest level requiring a scouting network spanning multiple continents to run the rule over scores of players, so ofcourse Klopp doesn't have time to do all that.
Obviously. I wasn’t criticising him for it. Simply pointing out it’s not what makes him an outstanding coach, since it’s a job done mostly by others. That’s not to say he doesn’t sometimes pick out players himself that he’s seen first hand (VvD and Mane, perhaps).
Having said that, do you really think Mickey Edwards bimbled into Klopps office one afternoon and said: "Yo Jurgen, there's this dude called Virgil Van Dijk that I think we should sign before anybody discovers him".
No. I don’t really think that.
I'm sure Klopp is independently aware of a lot of players, especially in the European leagues, that he's told the scouting department to keep an eye on. The likes of Keita, Fabhino and Alisson will hardly have been unknown to the Manager before the scouts clued him up.
I’m sure he is too. That doesn’t really change the actual point about what makes Klopp outstanding though.
The sign of a really good scouting department is recruiting players for a small fee before they hit the big-time who then turn into superstars, not paying world-record fees for the finished articles.
The likes of Coutinho and Robertson. Don’t forget, the scouting department were pushing for the likes of VvD, Salah, Mane, Alli prior to them joining Celtic, Chelsea, Spurs etc. And before Klopp was here.
If Klopp had brought a slew of top class players through the youth ranks, such that recruiting top class talent was unnecessary, then judgement in the transfer market would be less important.

Horse****. I was responding to a claim that Klopp’s outstanding attribute as a manager is his signings. There’s no point in me repeating myself again, so just go back and re-read what I actually said instead.Originally posted by BootRoom View PostYou reduced Klopp's role in transfers to merely rubber-stamping the opinions of the Scouting Dept, which is nonsense.
