I took the athletic tweet (didn't read the article) as meaning that he won't leave in January window as opposed to him signing a new contract.
He is a class act and can play like nobody else in our sqiad. I'd love to see him play with Szoboaslai as well as i think if he was running from deep with Thiago alongside threading balls through, it could be football pornography.
But......he isn't reliable from a fitness point of view. And when he does play, then it changes the way our midfield operates. There is an argument that he should just be a sub at this stage to be honest because changing the way the team plays for 3 or 4 games before he breaks down again isn't going to be good for our consistency or the integration of MacAllister and Dom. And Endo if he ever actually is integrated. And people like Jones who is finally starting to show something.

For the moment at least it feels like we don't miss him, you can probably handle one injury prone player in the squad if he is just a different option to what you have elsewhere in the side. In previous seasons we had been looking to him (and to a lesser extent Keita and Ox) to come in and give a bit of quality or something different, with the guys we have now he feels less unique in his abilities. It would be good to have him back and available later in the season when we need to give some of the new guys a break or if someone gets injured, but for now it doesn't feel much of an issue. Maybe his experience will be useful later in the season

If he would have gone we may well have replaced him and had another player who was actually available to share the minutes around.Originally posted by Zapater View PostNot sure why people are so up in arms, we're winning games. Just Klopp said he was due to return to 1st team training 6 weeks ago and as of today he still hasn't. So there's obviously been a set back and they're not putting time frames on it at this stage.
