He'll be living poor unless he gets that little cash bonus hey.

But surely he’s activated the tax issue when he started work with them? Maybe he hasn’t been paid yet

Plus, away from the statistics, there's a different level of expectation on someone coming in with Thiago's reputation and wage against someone who came in on a free from Schalke and varied between second and third choice centre back during his time here. I can't say I know Matip's wage, but it can't have been to the same level - we had much more value out of Matip.

In all comps its 98 appearances for Thiago and 201 for Matip.

Or 68 vs 150 for League games.

How many did they both start?

    To answer my own queston

    Thiago 98 total games

    Started 71
    Sub on 27
    Sub off 40

    Matip 201 total games

    Started 180
    Sub on 21
    Sub off 15

Don't think they're really comparable when you drill down into it. Thiago played a full 90 minutes 31 times over 4 seasons. Matip played a full 90 minutes 165 times over 8 seasons.

Maybe it'll be too cold for him and he's wanting to go back to the sun! I suppose there could be a Klopp coaching team departure tie in with this - if they had stayed, maybe he would have too.

I'm going to buck the trend a bit here and say he was one of the most frustrating players I have ever seen at Liverpool - absolutely no doubt that he was massively talented and there were some games he looked like a giant in a world of insects, but they were far too irregular. He was injured too often and that weekly wage could have gone on two up and coming, hungry players with better availability. I know it's not that simple and he'd have been great to have around the squad, but it doesn't take away from the fact he barely played and cost an absolute fortune.

Maybe we should have offered him a coaching role
