Whilst I am sure Jota's contract and insurance would come to enough to look after both families and then some, then you get the position of Andre's family maybe feeling like they are getting Diogo's money and that their own loss is somehow worth (not in a monetary way ) less if that makes sense.
For me it is a really nice gesture by the Chelsea players and it is up to the receiving families to react anyway they like or do what they like with the money. There are no wrong ways to any of it imo.
Another thing to look at is the fact that most of us on here come from very different worlds to footballers and their kin, so to them this could all be simply seen as a "looking after our own" type situation by all involved sides.I don't hate people. I just feel better when they aren't around.
