I agree it is a tough one. Gomez is the future, and more likely to be fit.

I cannot see anyone buying Matip though, and I think he is too good to discard. Just wheel him out when he is fit.
Matip is definitely our second best CB imo.

I’m with you guys. Matip when fit is our 2nd choice ahead of Joe.
Me, I’m either planning a holiday or I’m on one.

When given the decision 2 years ago didn't klopp start the season with gomez and VVD? Gomez was awesome and then got injured.

We don't know the extent yet to the likes of Gomez's injury - i fear more for him as he seems to have had some big long term injuries already and missed loads of football.

For next season, if he's willing too, i'd keep phillips as the 4th/5th choice and i'd sign Konate and Kabak

            VVD
            Konate
            Gomez
            Kabak
            Phillips

Why not have the depth - we ****ing need it!

Lets say that all of them stay fit and don't get any suspensions - then we'd still have plenty of games to rotate amongst the main four and we can then let Phillips go and get first team football somewhere.

But i'd certainly be happier to have the 5 in the squad rather than start another season with only 3 recognised cb's, one of which is made out of glass (matip) like we started this season.

I'd say it's a must to sign two first team quality cb - ie Konate and Kobak and i'd also say it's time to move Matip on.

So it just comes down to Phillips - I'd give him the choice, you can find a club to go and play first team football every week - a mid to lower prem side , and we'd all wish the best of luck or he can stay and be reliable/solid option and take his chances if/when he gets a go and see where he is at the end of the season.

RE Williams - let him have a season or two on loan to grow/strengthen and develop

Going well for Phillips with 52% of the vote

And Salah is up in the 70’s.

Hard to know with Philips, he clearly improved with more time and his confidence grew. IMO he should leave and go somewhere were he gets more game time & now is probably the best chance he'll ever get or achieving a solid move on the back of the last few months.

I have been impressed with him but we all know his limitations as a footballer and our high line relies on the pace of the CB's. Philips is a beast in the air, tough as nails & very committed, we could very well get 15m plus for a player like that and put the money elsewhere. In saying that, I would not be adverse to keeping him as he does have qualities that are needed against certain teams but imo from his perspective, now might be a great time for him to make a move to a team where he will be first choice.

For the sake of selling Nat and getting maybe 10-15m for him, it would then be speculation as to what we could get for that money and how well that player may perform. Then there is the potential for another crock.
At least Nat is sturdy, available and decent enough. Maybe no world beater but id sooner have him than some premier athlete type who is often unavailable.
Having seen how we were so dee in the **** with our CB crisis we have also broken two of our 1st choice midfielders when they have been drafted in as makefshift CB's.
And having less capable midfielders in front of the defence further reduced our defensive capabilities.
Klopp didnt use the defenders he had available due to lack of trust and experience, but when he had to scrape the barrel it didnt turn out so bad after all.

This. If he is happy to be No.4/5 and get some time here and there then he is worth keeping. Allow us to rotate the main squad and God forbid we have the same injuries as last year then the ability to bring in a known quantity.

Plus if the guys ahead of him prove to be solid and he is not needed there will still be some value to be had in the Winter or next summer.

Will come down to the player I think...he will be 4th/5th choice, so will get limited PL game time and maybe some appearances in the domestic cups. If he is willing to accept this, then I think Klopp would gladly keep him, but if he wants to be playing every week then I don't think Klopp would stop him moving.
