Sad news. It's a bit strange, but I was watching the season review of 2000/01 around a month ago, wondering how Heskey went from unstoppable to the worst finisher ever. Then thought we haven't heard about Houllier for some time and I'm surprised his health has held together so long... Guess I was wrong, huh? Also watched a recent [ame="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rIAWEWtPb2o"]Sean Dundee interview [/ame], where he's discussed at length.

His legacy will always be a bit polarising but he took the decisions, popular or not, for what he believed to be the greater good. Very important figure in Liverpool's modern history.

Loved his angry post match ‘One day we will beat Manchester United. I promise you that.’
After they knocked us out of the FA Cup in his first season.

Then we won 5 games in a row against them

The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

gutting news. Pretty much began my Liverpool journey when he first took over from Roy.

That treble year will never be forgotten, was totally amazing. It all went south a bit from there for him, but he laid the foundations for the side Rafa took over and he probably never quite got the credit he deserved. Some of our modern greats were blooded by Ged.

            RIP

At the time of the 2001 FA Cup final against Arsenal I was unemployed and skint. Prior to the start of that season, while i was working, I'd opened an online account with William Hill and they were offering a free £10 bet on the FA Cup winners. Obviously went for Liverpool. When Owen scored that second I was dancing around the living room. The £100 came in pretty handy at that time.

Wasn't the wisest decision to return at all, but a fantastic moment in the memory.

**** just heard the news ... underrated and deserved more respect for his achievements... but the one thing about him which really stood out was his pure passion for his club LFC ... god bless Mr. Gerrard Houllier
