I think it’s largely fear/nerves, movement without the ball is fine but he does not look confident or comfortable on the ball, and if it doesn’t come soon, and he doesn’t have a strong enough mentality, it might not come at all. Getting banned doesn’t help.
you only need to look at a certain youtube compilation to see his close control really needs work, still a handful though. But how many chances will he need to score goals?

I'm in no doubt Klopp will eviscerate him, in private.

That red card just doesn't happen in a Klopp team

Played like a competition winner tonight. Almost every shot he had was woefully mi****.

The cream on tonight's **** pie was the needless and quite ridiculous red card. 3 games in the corner of the room with the dunces cap on.

Going to be a rough season for him now. It might set him up but I doubt he's going to set fire this season, when he's needed.

He’s played 2 games for us and you’re reasoning like a 15 year old kid.

                    I didn’t call him ****. I said “he looks a bit **** eh?”.

I know he’s going to take weeks to come to terms with what’s expected of him in our system, and that would totally explain him making the wrong runs, getting in Salah’s way, passing to nobody etc. poor control and miss hit shots are something else though. His interviews on joining included comments about how he was nervous, I wonder if he has the mentality of a top striker. We’ll see how it goes.

His sole contribution in 50% of competitive games he's played for us is to get sent off.

                      That's a worrying trait.

It’s 2 games. You’re worried he might continue that rate across 40+ games?

On a sample set of 2 games.

I think its nerves, he is eager to make an impact, he needs to settle down. He is continually getting in goal scoring positions, he just needs that killer instinct. He definitely has quality, and qualities.

I also wonder if today we overplayed to his strengths a bit. We were looking for him a lot, going direct, a lot which is not how we have been playing for the last 5 years.

Yes, I think that’s exactly what happened. We got lazy with the build up. Our passing around the box improved a lot without him on the pitch. And with Carvalho on, he looks like a class player.
