The Peloton almost miscalculated the other day, so they are more "aware" of the possibility now. Is there any wind at all? If he`s going against wind he`ll never make it.

I can't find any details of the wind on the sites but it's very hot. Cofidis are still on the front of the peloton.

Eurosport's live studio coverage is starting now so I'll keep an ear out for any news of the conditions.

Suppose you have a physicist and a sociologist standing at the side of a field, observing a set of events unfolding on the field. The physicist does [describes] it using the terminology of mass and velocity and frequency of radiation and the rest. And the sociologist does it by describing it as a rugby match.

May the Lord bless this post.

Quickstep has taken the front, Boonen is probably in good shape then.

Yes, sorry about that. I had to go and watch my daughter trampolining.

Wiggins was eaten up by the pack with 7km, meaning he was out front on his own for 190km.

Good sprint by Boonen to win. It was pretty hectic and dangerous I thought - Just before the sprint Boonen lost his derailleur tangling with another bike but hie was on his 53/11 at the time and so was able to continue in the sprint while more bad luck for Cavendish as someone's pedal ripped out half the spokes in his front wheel as the sprint started meaning he had to limp in with the rest of the field.

But you know all that because you watched the highlights last night.

Today should be interesting. It won't determine who's going to win in Paris but it might well decide a couple of riders aren't going to win it. The Astana boys are the obvious focus of interest - both had real trouble yesterday (or so they claim - they may have been bluffing) and it wouldn't be surprising if at least one of them loses serious time today.

The final summit, the Colombiere, is just 15km from the finish, The race will probably hit the climb at speed and anyone who doesn't make it to the top with the lead riders will almost certainly* not make it back to them by the line.

Valverde and Caisse d'Epargne have been very quiet all week - it will be interesting to see if they or CSC attack Astana on the final climb to put Kloden and Vinokourov under pressure. Now is the time to test them because those two are bound to be worried about how they'll fare in the mountains and if they can get through the next two days without losing time they then have the first rest day on Monday.

                      * Savoldelli might because he's such a brilliant descender.

Missed them as I had to go out to kid's school disco. First time I've been to a pub and especially eaten, since the smoking ban. Took me half an hour to get over how pleasant it was and how I actually wanted to eat there. Flippin' marvellous - civilisation has taken a huge step forward. Felt slightly sorry for two girls standing outside in the pouring rain having a fag as we left. But at least they looked cool.

Isn't the correct term "he was derailled" ?

Freire's pulled out with a sore bottom.

A group of 12 riders have broken away and have a lead of 5" over three pursuers and 5'10" over the peloton.

I'm not sure that the yellow and green jerseys are in the peloton though - they were dropped early on although the peloton has since slowed.

Now the TV coverage has stopped for some motorcycling ****.

The lead group of 15 now lead the main group containing all the GC contenders by 8'27".

The breakaway could win today if they work well together over the next hour or two.
