    Drugs in sport

Is everyone agreed that it is a bad thing or do some people feel that we should look to have the best spectacle, the fastest runner/cyclists, highest jumpers or whatever?

Bad thing ... It's cheating. Shouldn't be accepted in any sport whatsoever.

It's cheating because thats the way the rules are set up surely? If everyone was allowed to do it then it would not be gaining an unfair advantage.

I tend to find drug use a distasteful idea but I'm not sure there is a very solid practical/factual basis for my opinion.

It is a tough question, the obvious answer should be that drugs are a form of cheating and should be banned as sport should remain "pure" and that the people we see perform are exactly the same as you or I, the only reason why they are there is due to their talent and hard-work.

Problem is though that 99% of athletes now take some form of supplements, so already they are getting preferential treatment - why aren't these also banned?

            No, there's not.

The rules are obviously not set up this way, it's the perceived 'results only' perspective and the fact that money and prestige also that's in it which drives competitors to gain an unfair advantage. There was a case where the use of 'creatine' was doubted and I remember Wenger being involved in it some years ago ... Creatine has been since 'authorized' and deemed legal ...

But if they're allowed the most money will buy the best drugs.
That definately does not leave everyone on the same playing field. Infact, with a Lottery win, I could enter the 100m and give Linford Christie the finger as I trot passed him
Well, here we are in a room with two manky hookers and a racist dwarf. I think I'm heading home.

That's because MLB never had a testing system in place until two or three seasons back.

We studied this in some depth at uni and had lectures from the old DDR sport institute in Leipzig. The conclusion was that there are few competitive sports where the current world records can be proven to have been acheived by drug free athletes. The current world womens hammer record holder is under scrutiny here in Germany due to her massive improvements. Personally I find it dishonest but the amount of spectacle in sport sadly dictates that atheletes, trainers, governing bodies and governments all collude to allow doping to continue.

Can't understand how anyone could enjoy or feel proud of a victory knowing they had cheated.
