Well, I'm proud of our lads, really proud. To get to another final is a magnificent achievement and at the end of the day they lost to the best team in the competition.

It was strange though, I thought we looked like the only team likely to score a try and in the end it was only the slightest of touches that prevented us doing so.

Well done to SA as well.

"If Gerrard continues to play up front, leaving this lack of creativity and intelligence in Midfield, the season WILL be over by Xmas."

I still don't think we'll finish in the top 4 this season."

During the last few minutes of the first half SA looked like scoring a try - they were camped on the English line for 3 or 4 minutes, but the defense stood firm.

All in all probably the best World Cup since its inception. The rise of some of the lesser nations was a joy and some of the rugby, pride and passion was magnificent.

It has to go down as a total success, and I honestly believe the best team won. The SA tactics throughout the tournament were faultless and they were probably the only team who went into each game with an initial gameplan, but still had plans B and C to fall back on if they got into trouble.

Upsetting that it's now over, but the football season will hopefully throw up as much excitement.

I was referring to getting a try through running the ball not forcing it over, which is what I fully expected SA to do many times before the game.

I have a bad feeling ahead for us and the premiership.

i think the Boks would have scored if they had thrown it out wide rather than try forcing it over.

Englands defence was too good for the forcing it over method

will be interesting to see how many of those players hang up their international boots

With everything over maybe we should now try select a world 15 based upon the performances in the world cup.

It's not easy to select, but i guess there would be a good few springboks, some English, a couple kiwis, aussies, french and argentinian.

Haven't given it much thought, but i think there are some dead certainties:

Fullback - Percy Montgomery - missed one goal kick all tournament, and was just brilliant throughout.
Left Wing - Bryan Habana - nuff said
Right wing - a few options
centres - pretty difficult - some immense displays in the tournament (mortlock?)
3 or 4 flyhalves stood out (and Carter was not one of them. hernandez/beauxis)
Scrumhalf - Fourie Du preez - nuff said
Loose forwards - many contenders (Betsen/Mcaw/Juan Smith)
Locks ---- the easiest decision (Matfield and Botha)
Props ---- many good props in the tournament (Sheridan?.Scelzo?)
Hooker --- John Smith (world cup winning captain).

            Any thoughts?

How the video ref didn't give the try was criminal!!!! His leg was in the air and his knee did not touch the line either. You could forgive it if hadn't gone to video ref and not given it but the video ref was shocking.
I think it's a foul, and if the ref gives it. He got to give a penalty. I know it's outside the box, but you see them given that close to the area. So if the ref gives it he's got to give the penalty as it so close to the area. But I think it's a penalty. Robbie Savage 8/11/06

Are you watching Manchester United? Are you watching Chelsea? This is Liverpool F.C taking over the bloody world!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

No try, you can see it on that replay down the line, his boot touches the line before he grounds the ball. Conclusive really.

                  SA deserved the win.

Well a great final to a fitting of the best WC

Jake White has done a great job for SA in imense political pressure and that could see him go, i would love him for Ireland plus Eddie Jones is a super coach and has helped SA so much in the tourney he says he's going back to Sarries as consultant and then is wanted to take over from Gaffney in the near future but im sure he wants another crack at International Rugby and maybe Wales if he does decide to get back into International Coaching

England done themselves proud i didnt think it was a try and have seen it loads of times i guess its 50/50 if you were going to be picky.

Tait played really good, shame Billy Whizz had to leave rugby in that way he has been superb in both codes and great to watch especially in the Lions Tour in 2001 and 2003.

Montgomery awesome all the way through the WC safe as houses under the ball and a beast of a player. Great kicker and what about Steyn 20 years of age and has some boot on him.

Anyone else notice Jonny after the final whistle on the pitch he didnt have a drop of sweat on him, looked like he was just going to play instead of been through 80 mins of rugby.

Im happy for Du Randt, Matfield, Smit, Botha and Montgomery all have played well over the last 4 years and some will retire and others head over to Europe now.

Du Preez scrum half of the WC!!
When you feel like you're done, you are not alone........

No his boot was off the ground. Meaning he was in play.

Just before he puts the ball down his foot touches the line.
