I used to LOVE watching Sports Personality of the Year (it's also invariable on or there abouts my birthday) so it used to out for a meal with my family then back for the program - in the past few years it's just turned ****, to be honest.

As for this year - Lewis Hamilton shouldn't win it for the simple fact that he'll more than likely win the F1 championship at some point, which would then justify him winning this. Justin Rose needs to win a major or two before he should be named it - so, for me, it needs to be a world champion so either of the boxers would be worthy winners.

In all honesty the only person who has over a concerted period of time transcended the usual confines of interest in their sport was Hamilton. This is an award for sports personality of the year - people get recognised within their own field for their ability. I don't think anyone has been a truly outstanding personality this year but Hamilton came much closer than any of the others IMO.

        Give him the award
You are taking the piss right??

He didnt win any majors this year and didnt win in on the PGA Tour he just pipped Harrington to the order of Merit and the next week Harrington was back as Europe's number one.

He's had a very good season but nowhere near as great as you are making out mate.

But at the time when it mattered it was still a better season than Harringtons.

As for that list, what is Murray doing in there? He had about 6 months off and then lost several games if tennis.
What have I learned, Mr Mackay? Three things. One - bide your time. Two - keep your nose clean. And three - don't let the *******s grind you down

He's had a good season no doubt but a better season then Harrington i dont think so because Rose would swap being European number one for a major!!!

            Dont you agree??

That has got to be the sorriest looking bunch of contenders ever for sports personality of the year.

Calzaghe all the way but it could have been Hatton if his fight was any earlier (and he won of course!)

As for the rest, you've got to be kidding.
Twin boys - now arriving late August 2008.

Its gonna be Fernando and Gerrard if I get my way!

I'm only surprised that Wayne Rooney isn't nominated considering how much the Beeb love the Mancs...
There is a light that never goes out. RIP Alan "Mally" Johnston and the 96. YNWA.

                            Snore....

If he had fought Bernard Hopkins and beaten him this year, he would have had a great shout with winning it

He deserves it more than any of the others mate - and he should have won it when he stuffed Lacy!

Won't get it though as he's Welsh!
