My suspicions about Paula Radcliffe.

I think Holmes and Radcliffe had to push themselves to incredible levels to finally win golds and Kelly thought at her age she'd done enough, didn't want to go through another 4 years of it and decided to leave at the top. Radcliffe's body is now reacting to the abuse she had to put it through to win.

Don't know, I'm no expert, but the woman that won the Olympic marathon this year, the Romanian, is 4 years older than Radcliffe, and has in her career run more than double the number of marathons Radcliffe has (23 - 10).

I mean that Radcliffe was only a bronze athlete and had to push herself to such levels to win gold that since then she has never since been fit.

Radcliffe wasn't fit for the marathon at all this year was she (just had a kid?), so i wouldn't even take her failure this year as anything significant? It's quite common for mature long distance female runners to win even after having kids, I just think that Radcliffe pushed herself too hard to overcome her shortcomings a few years ago and knackered her body, she may yet have an Indian Summer, but there was no chance for her this year.

I think she has built her record on hard drug programmes. The reason I say this is because early on in her career, she was ok but nothing special.

Suddenly, she started breaking records by silly amounts and was praised to the heavens.

However, once the Olympics came round, there was a lot of noise about strict testing on athletes. This was four years ago and I said to my Mrs..."Radcliffe won't do anything now. She won't risk taking the gear and will flop. She did.

As soon as the Olympics were over, she started doing the business again! As I predicted. Now, with the Olympics coming round again, she is at it again. As I thought she might be.

I think that four years ago, she thought she could do it without the drugs and was found desperately wanting. This time round, she is making no such assumptions and knows full well she doesn't have what it takes.

"I'll give it a go" is her line now.

Well **** me...how brave dear Paula is. Bollocks.

Nothing in her career adds up for me. Everytime I have predicted difficulties for her they have come true, even after the last Olympics when I predicted, with less stringent tests, her results would suddenly pick up again, they did.

Oh well...just watch her and the excuses this time.
