hahamy dad does the same thing!!!! it must be an old man thing - his reckoning is he is a better putter than chipper and he knows using his putter will get close enough to have a go with the next one -

haha class - funny story slightly related - i used to play quite regulary with the club champ - bit of a prick, always tried to give people advice which pisses me off - but this one time he cracked me up - i was in ****ing tears

there was amember at our club - say in his 50's crap golfer but off about 12 as he played a lot and knew how to hack it round the course - ihate this kinda of golfer, every club has 'em **** swing, **** strike but still managed regular nett 68's - anyway everyday for about 2 weeks we saw this guy spending about 2hours on the putting green practising long putts

club champ goes over to him

"excuse me - can i ask why u are practising these long putts all the time?"

"cause when out on the course i always 3 putt from distance"

"ok....so do u find urself having to putt from distance all the time!"

"yeah - so i want to get good at long putting"

"well...don't you think you would be better spending this much time on actually getting closer to the hole in the first place....then you won't have as many long putts!"

the fella was stunned, lost for words - i was crying with laughter

I do it too…….especially if I’m having a bad time around the greens.

You can’t fluff a putt. If you’ve got the chipping yips…which sometimes I am prone to, putting from miles out is a far safer option.

its a required skill over here, the ol texas wedge shot.

Our greens are incredibly fast in summer, and its almost impossible to stop a chip sometimes. Putting from the fringe can save you loads of strokes

Can someone explain the scoring system? I seen some halves and all sorts.

Whats the difference between foursomes and fourballs?

Fourballs is 'two v two' - literally four balls are in play and the best score from each side goes on the scorecard.

Foursomes is when the two players take alternate shots.

You get a point for winning a match, and half a point if the game is 'halved' (tied).

Ah **** it - so long as we're level or thereabouts going into the singles...

We generally got tanked in the singles. Faldo will be looking for somewhere between a 3 and 5 point lead going into the singles.

Don't see it that way this time. I think we're stronger man-for-man.

IIRC last time we destroyed them throughout only to stutter over the line in the singles after letting it slip away?

We've absolutely no chance of a 5 point lead going into the singles.
