    Ben, stop being a ****.

If you believe that then please do say why. If not, then stop being a ****.

Suppose you have a physicist and a sociologist standing at the side of a field, observing a set of events unfolding on the field. The physicist does [describes] it using the terminology of mass and velocity and frequency of radiation and the rest. And the sociologist does it by describing it as a rugby match.

May the Lord bless this post.

I am surprised but I really think Hoy deserved it. Then again I know I'm biased.

I suppose it's like any award thing really.

For example, all those f*cking Album of the Year threads, etc.

We should start our own poll for Sports Personality of the Year

I'd agree the "personality" is a bit of an anachronism. It used to mean star but when any braindead f*ckwit can be a television personality or celebrity by virtue of appearing on some cretinous reality programme then the word obviously debases the award.

Then again, what else would you call it? Or would you have a Sportsman and a Sportswoman of the Year?

Yeah, and they're meaningless too Although, at least you are comparing like for like. By that I mean you are comparing music with music. How can you compare a cyclist with a footballer with a long jumper. Each of those disciplines are so vastly different and require different skills and strengths with different levels of competition. How can you say who is better than who and quantify it?

That's a silly argument. You're comparing one sporting achievement with another.

In fact, music awards are even sillier. How can you compare a country album with a rock album with a hiphop album with some album from a yoof genre I've never heard of?

Anyway at least sport is competitive. Music awards make a competition out of creativity.
