Jesus I remember him getting booed pre fight post fight during the fight for his antics

You are right ...actually the only persona universally loved i think was Chuck ... when Chuck walked to the cage .. you knew bad things were just about to happen and ultimately .. thats what we are all hoping for ... 4.25 .... UFC GOLD

Chuck always reminded me of some sort of ape in the way he carried himself. Well, an ape and a young boy with a pot belly

The one fighter I used to really like watching was Mir, he was one nasty son of a bitch, so explosive his opponents hardly had a chance to tap out.

I don't think Mir was average by a long way. I loved watching him fight though because he had so much power and he was so explosive in applying his locks it was quite frightening to watch.

I thought he was one of the best in his day, obviously short on many fronts by todays standards, but things have moved on enormously.

He had a bad motorbike accident a few years back and has never quite been the same fighter.

That being said to suggest that Mir was average is laughable.

I disagree. At what stage of his career was he anything other than average? Who has he beaten?

In a very poor division he's never been at the top of the pile. He beats the dross often, and the old has-beens, but as soon as he starts fighting anybody near the top 5, he loses.

Look at his record, the only victories i'd be proud of are Roy Nelson and to a lesser extent Big Foot. Nog was past it, as was Cro Cop, Lesner was at the start of his career

The only time he's fought a run of decent fighters he went 0-4. Thats an average fighter

Dunno if a two time UFC heavyweight champion and a Jui Jitsu ninja could be called average.

If you're going to pick holes in peoples resumes the. It could be done with just about every fighter whose ever stepped foot in the octogon or boxing ring.

Mayweather - cherry picked, ran from Paul Williamz
Pacquio - got KTFO against Marquez and steroids

Anderson Silva - Did you see the Damian Maia fight? Oh and Steroids
Jon Jones - Gustaveson beat him and he's only beat people towards the end of their career. Prime Rua would have monstered him oh and he's a heavyweight fighting at light heavy

                          Etc etc etc

Tim Sylvia was UFC champion- it isn't the sign of a great fighter. Regardless of how crap the division is, there is always a champ.

Also, there are guys with FAR better at BJJ than Mir. He's a black belt and has good BJJ for MMA- but again that doesn't make him great. Its just 1 aspect. Like saying XYZ is a great fighter because he punches hard

Thing is, its not picking holes in it. You just have to look at it from a far to see its nothing special.

And your final arguments are so weak its hardly worth responding but i will anyway. Comparing him to 4 of the best ever MMA/Boxers around is laughable

Silva won that fight without trying and was unbeaten for 7 (?) years- yep, him and Mir are practically identical...

JBJ- Arguably the most talented fighter around at the moment- only loss is via a DQ and has beaten some big names along the way- Fair enouh was luck with the decision- again, his career is almost identical to Mir's

Mir has the most sub's of any heavyweight in UFC history. That's some damn good BJJ and a fighter far more than average.

Nobody's said he's one of the greats!

I said I used to love watching him because his submissions were nasty. On his day, back then, his ground game was one of the best in the heavyweight division. At his best he was never average, but then he wasn't a great either, his fights were exciting and he had something else few of the big guys had.
