Boxing Matches - Saturday 11th December

Some good fights happening tonight. Any of you going to be watching?

Amir Khan v Marcos Maidana (WBA light-welterweight).
Nathan Cleverly v Alejandro Lakatos (WBO interim light-heavyweight),
Matthew Macklin v Ruben Varon (European middleweight)
Paul Smith v James DeGale (British super-middleweight)
Tony Bellew v Ovill McKenzie (Commonwealth light-heavyweight)
Kell Brook v Philip Kotey (WBO inter-continental welterweight)

    Thoughts/Predictions? I'm going for...
    Khan by UD
    Cleverly by early KO
    Macklin by late KO
    DeGale by KO
    Brook by KO

Hope Khan and DeGale lose though. Even though Maidana has an excellent KO rate and is a good boxer - I just think Freddie Roach is too good at spotting opponents weaknesses, he seems to have the ability to turn ordinary fighters (Khan) into good fighters and good fighters into great ones - also listened to an interview with Roach and seems to have spotted quite a lot in Maidana that can be exploited. Really do hate Khan though and watching him get knocked out by Breidis Prescott gave me almost as much pleasure as beating United 4-1 at OT.

Cleverly is not fighting Lakatos this evening. Lakatos pulled out earlier in the week. He's fighting some guy who's come in at three day's notice.

This PPV was shaping up to be cracking value with the Liverpool, Germany and then Vegas fights. It's slightly diminished now that the German card is off.

I fancy Khan to handle Maidana with surprising ease providing he avoids the big right hands that'll be aimed at his head. Khan to win by stoppage in the 10th or 11th.

Smith vs DeGale is a fight that shouldn't be overlooked. Smith is a solid domestic level fighter. DeGales not yet been in with anyone as experienced as Smith. Wouldn't mind seeing Smith do the business tonight against DeGale.

Yeah christ knows what they're going to do between the end of the Liverpool card and the start of the Vegas card. The German card would have filled the gap nicely.

Victor Ortiz a one time Golden Boy prodigy, before Maidana battered him and made him quit, is fighting on the undercard. Big things were expected of him. Be interesting to see how he bounces back.

Utterly, utterly pointless. And Kell Brook continues to learn absolutely nothing.

I don't get the whole Khan hating thing, but that's another thread for another time.

I think this is by far the biggest and most dangerous fight he's been in. People were slating him for not fighting Maidana, so you've got to give him some credit. This is the first Khan fight where there hasn't been a barrage of abuse about him picking a **** opponent. The Khan haters(of whom there any many) seem to have kept to themselves, probably sitting there, hoping that he gets KO'd so they can explode onto the internet in their millions saying how **** he is.

First big-hitter he's been up against since Prescott. I'm looking forward to it. Tough fight.

I like Khan - good luck to him. There seems to be negativity to our Olympic boxers, James de Gale being another.

Cleverly is trying his hardest to **** this up btw.

Glad Cleverley won but he did have quite a tough fight and lost a couple of rounds as well as having a point deducted.

Yes it is Khan's biggest and most dangerous fight and so it should be. I certainly give him credit for taking the fight - people were right to slate him not taking it before though!

This is the first Khan fight where there hasn't been a barrage of abuse about him picking a **** opponent
That's because Maidana isn't a **** opponent! Most of Khan's previous opponents have been! Roach has been clever in his selection of Khan's previous opponents (Malignaggi, Salita, Kotelnik) on paper they look like good names but in reality they're all non-punchers and have pathetically low KO rates (38%, 16%, 48%).

The Khan haters(of whom there any many) seem to have kept to themselves, probably sitting there, hoping that he gets KO'd so they can explode onto the internet in their millions saying how **** he is.
That's a bit harsh and don't think that'll be the case at all if Maidana wins. I think most are predicting a Khan victory with ease. It's not his boxing skills/style which people hate it's his attitute/personality - the way he thinks he's the best boxer ever and can beat anyone yet will not face them - he's already said he could fight Pacman, Mayweather, and others. Back it up by winning this match then he'll get respected more.

I like Khan - good luck to him. There seems to be negativity to our Olympic boxers, James de Gale being another.
Hasn't got anything to with them being in the Olympics - it's their attitute. They're far too cocky without having backed it up against decent fighters - they're typical Frank Warren fighters, face loads of bums and the media and everyone else start hyping them up, eventually they start listening to all their own hype and think they're invincible.
