They knew the schedule and how it was impossible to run both so why bother entering?

But he did try to withdraw before the race which you are allowed to do - Jessica Ennis was a DNS for the 100m Hurdles, she decided not to do it. He decided not to do it but was told his Association did not submit the withdrawal in time - even though it was the day before.

Might have been over optimistic to enter both but a silly rule on behalf on the Athletics

This is proper sport the Olympics. Everyone giving their all not like some of the waste of spaces we see on a football pitch who get paid mega money and show little effort.
