Hamilton apparently now in talks with McLaren over a new contract.

    Funny that.
    Modifying post.

      about Zanardi!

Great frontrow lock out by McLaren today with Hamilton on pole and Button 2nd. Looked like the Ferraris were trying to slipstream each other to help their laptimes - didn't work for Alonso who is starting 10th.

      Should be interesting tomorrow

Gutted for Alonso that a failure deprives him of an excellent chance to get the holy grail of a pole in a Ferrari at Monza. Great job by Massa and the 2 McLarens plus di Resta too. Shame Alonso won't be able to battle the McLarens from the start.

Alonso is in a horrible position there as he could quite easily get into some trouble going into the first corner.

Think it's good for the championship if he has a couple of races that don't go to plan (+ I'm not a massive fan of his)

Lots of people don't like him, think it was the McLaren year that did it. In a British team against a young British drivers expecting their full focus to be on him and coming across a bit petulant because it wasn't was never going to endear him to people. I follow him on twitter and he appears far more down to earth than the image I had of him before he started it.

I'd rather he was at the front though cos I'm a Ferrari man plus it's clear he hasn't got the fastest car so him being in front keeps the title race interesting.

Ferrari just tweeted that the part that failed costs €1!

Maybe it's his turn for bad luck after so many consecutive finishes without issues.

Ah he's an awesome driver, certainly wouldn't take anything away from him on that front it was his McClaren stint that did it I think, he was pretty petulant and didn't handle it well at all.

F1 is one of those crule sports in so much you can get a run of bad luck through no fault of your own, I mean that crash last week he was so lucky it wasn't worse and then today with a little failure from a part that cost €1!

Yeah I think he learned a lot from the McLaren experience and it certainly made him a better driver/person.

A €1 part failure costing you pole in a Ferrari at Monza is the ultimate kick in the stones!

massively, I can't believe they actually have parts that cost that little on an F1 car

He has got better over the years, I'm a McLaren fan (live 5 - 10 minutes from their HQ) so that does stick in my mind but you can't take away from his driving ability, simply brilliant driver

I'm Irish so it was always Jordan for me but I always liked Ferrari. Never really had an opinion on Alonso until he went there and became and instant hero

I always liked Button, could never really take to Hamilton but I follow him on twitter too and he seems a nice bloke, twitter is great for that sort of stuff. The recent love in between him and Fernando has made it easier to like him too!

Lewis comes across as being ultra competitive much like Alonso really which is why perhaps they struggled together for that season and now they're getting on well, similar type of people.

It's been a bloody good season so far and to be honest if Alonso does win it you'd have to say well done, it's not the best car (hard to tell what actually is) but he's driven the wheels off it and got the most he could points wise probably bar last week obviously and the Canadian GP where they didn't make the stop and got caught on the last few laps.

Absolutely, they are both at the top of their game, it's better for the sport that they are in different cars.

It's one of the best seasons I can remember. A lot of talk from those involved that they don't want it becoming too random but I think it's great that anyone could turn up and get a win if things fall their way.

It's a golden age with so many good drivers in competitive cars, long may it continue

Getting a third championship kind of lifts them into an elite. He deserves to be there, and but for that falling out at McLaren, he probably would have his 3rd one by now.

He's at his peak just now. Needs to do it soon if he's going to get it.

Agreed.Hope he does it this year.He should have had it 2 years ago but for the final race meltdown on strategy

Also hope and expect Hamilton at the very least joins the ranks of the double World Champions before he finishes. His talent deserves it.
