I see Mayweather jr is back rehashing his "I'm better than Ali ever was" schtick

Hard to disagree with him if you judge it purely on technical ability and on being able to go from division to division whilst still winning titles, but I think he fails to grasp (or just chooses to ignore) the fact that Ali truly transcended the sport in a manner that no other boxer since has done.

Although if I were asked who the greatest boxer of all time was, and nothing outside the ring counted, then I think that neither Ali or Mayweather jr would be my shout.

Sugar Ray Robinson would probably be my choice as the greatest boxer of all time, as obvious a call as that is. He had technique that was decades ahead of his time, and physically he was the complete package. Speed, toughness, durability, power, reflexes, stamina, and ring smarts.

I still marvel at footage of his fights, and the footage of his training camps etc., are just as eye catching.

He ended up with 19 losses to his name by the time his career ended, but the majority of those came after he had turned 39. Plus he did take part in 200 professional fights

Showtime have really really tried their hardest to get a narrator that can emulate Schreiber, absolutely nowhere near.

Schreiber is ace at it, the HBO one was so much better.

Haha if Gerrard had been as good a footballer as Robinson was a boxer, then we would be talking about Gerrard as being a rival to the likes of Pele, Maradona, Carroll and Messi for the title of best ever.

Watched the sugar Ray Robinson piece on sky again this morning for me he's the best ever. Ali liked to profess himself as the greatest but he wasn't, very very good of course but not at Ray Robinsons level.

Actually Ali has stated many times that he regarded Robinson as the best boxer/fighter of all time.

He often came out with a line that went something like this "I used to call myself the Greatest, but Ray Robinson was the greatest of all time"

Did not know there was a piece on Robinson on Sky today, was it a new piece or a repeat of an old one?
