Hayemaker Boxing regret to inform that David Haye has been forced to postpone his September 28 bout with Tyson Fury due to a deep cut suffered during the final spar of training camp.
The cut above his left eyebrow occurred in round two of sparring on Friday night (September 19) and required six stitches by a plastic surgeon at St. Thomas' hospital. Because of the gravity of the cut, these stitches will now remain in place for five to seven days.
Unfortunately, after being properly assessed, Haye was left with no choice but to postpone his fight with Fury, scheduled for next Saturday night in Manchester. He is currently waiting on further medical assessment to determine the extent of the postponement.
“Gutted isn't even the word,” said a crestfallen Haye. “Mentally, I'm on the floor at the moment. I'm devastated most of all for my loyal fans, my family and my team, as well as Tyson Fury and his team.
“I know injuries and cuts are part and parcel of our sport, but this doesn't change the feeling of disappointment and sadness I'm experiencing right now. To everyone who has bought tickets, booked hotels, and followed this fight since it was announced, there is absolutely nothing I can do except apologise from the very bottom of my heart.
“Even when everything seems to be right on track, sometimes life throws you a curveball. I will somehow have to try and make the best of this horrible situation. But, right now, I'm in bits about what has happened.”
As Darth Marty said styles make fights and there is no question that Khan's handspeed and the way he likes to throw a lot of flurries would pose Mayweather some problems. He could find himself ahead after a couple of rounds due to his workrate. Mayweather hasn't faced anyone with the kind of speed Khan has since Zab Judah and if we remember, Judah gave Floyd some problems until he started to time his arse. The same thing would happen here. One of the great things about Floyd is his ability to adapt to any fighter/situation. Once he figures you out and gets his timing right (there is no one better at doing this) he will neutralise everything you've got. Down the stretch I could see Mayweather completely breaking Khan down.
I found Canelo's comments in his post fight conference interesting but not surprising when he said he became frustrated because he couldn't find Floyd and that he took him off his gameplan. This is one thing I don't think Khan and other fighters appreciate enough about Floyd before they enter the ring with him. They all watch video footage and think they have the blueprint, the skill to beat him (in Khans case he thinks it's speed) but it's not until the bell rings that they realise how difficult and frustrating it is to fight him. He will inevitably shut down your work rate to the point whereby you'll end up fighting at Floyd pace and that is what you don't want.
Khan's got skills but I question his ring IQ and to fight Floyd you need more than just speed because eventually he will time Khan imo and I can't see him not being able to catch Khan on the counter for most of the fight.
Khan has skills and speed, but he sure as hell does not come close to Zab Judah in those departments. Khan is also quite poor when it comes to giving other fighters angles to work with. His speed allows him to get away with it against lower tier fighters and/or feather fisted fighters (which is what he has faced for the most part), but someone with Mayweather's skillset would school him.
The only way that Khan holds his own for the opening two or three rounds is if Mayweather starts slow or Maayweather sits back to get the measure of Khan.
Mayweather vs Khan lasts as long as Mayweather wants it to imho. Mayweather, despite his age, is still a world class boxer, Khan is a decent boxer with some good skills but who will never come within an asses roar of being world class.
Would also argue that Khan's power is nothing special compared to that what some of the fighters that Mayweather faced brought to the ring.
I don't hate people. I just feel better when they aren't around.
Travel is fatal to prejudice, bigotry, and narrow-mindedness
I don't buy it for a second, that photo looks shopped. Haye is just too scared of getting a beating from Fury and he needs more time to prepare. I seriously hope Fury's camp demands proper medical evidence for this postponement - it's not the first time Haye would have postponed a fight without providing evidence.
The cut looks genuine enough. Don't think there's any trickery with the photo.
More pertinent question is why are you sparring a week away from the fight? Surely that part of camp should be finished by now? Awfully hard to get a cut like that with 16 - 20oz gloves and head gear.
Must be majorly frustrating for all those with tickets and those who've also shelled out for transport, hotels etc.
Sky no doubt will be doing their nut as well. They've invested a decent sum in the promotion of this PPV and packaged it along with the Cloud / Stevenson fight from the States later that Saturday. What do they do now? Put the Stevenson fight on regular Sky?
Keep in mind that Groves vs Froch will be on PPV in November. If it takes say a month for that to fully heal will Sky risk putting two PPV fights on less than 4 weeks apart (Haye late October and Froch November)
Remember Haye and his stinkers against Vitalli and Audley are the reason Sky stopped doing PPV and he may just have provided another reason for them to scrap them again (for him at least)

That's the bit that seems a bit odd/mental/desperate to me.
He was training with sparring partner Filip Hrgovic - a 6ft 6" Croatian - when he was cut, and the wound required six stitches.
Why would you be doing heavy sparring with a guy like that the week before the fight unless you were undercooked?
