Andy Lee is looking to have the first defence of his belt against Billy Joe Saunders in Limerick.

Be a cracking atmosphere in Thomond Park if they were able to organise it for there.

The UL sports arena would be indoors, but TP can hold more.

            ****ing hell

Prizefighter Anthony Crolla's world title hopes dashed after suffering broken ankle and serious head injury tackling burglars

Anthony Crolla from New Moston suffered a serious head injury and a broken ankle chasing a pair of cowardly thugs who had been raiding a neighbour’s house

Boxing champ Anthony Crolla’s world title fight will have to be called off after he suffered terrible injuries tackling burglars.

The 28-year-old from New Moston suffered a serious head injury and a broken ankle chasing a pair of cowardly thugs who had been raiding a neighbour’s house.

The have-a-go hero gave chase after he spotted the two raiders jumping over a fence from a neighbour’s house into his garden.

He managed to grab hold of one of the burglars nearby but the second is understood to have picked up a brick or lump of concrete and thrown it at his head.

With blood pouring from a head wound, the WBO intercontinental lightweight champ managed to stagger back to his home where his girlfriend dialled 999.

Paramedics were called to the scene and Crolla was taken to Royal Oldham Hospital where he remains in a stable condition and awaiting the result of a CT scan.

His devastated trainer Joe Gallagher, 46, conceded Crolla’s injuries were so severe his scheduled January 23 WBA world title fight with Richard Abril at the Phones 4U Arena would have to be called off.

Gallagher told the MEN: “I’ve just spoken to him on the phone and he’s heart-broken. He’s all plastered-up and waiting for a CT scan. His title dream is gone. Whether he will ever get another shot at it in the future, I don’t know. His dreams are in tatters.”

Describing the incident at Crolla’s home at around 6pm on Tuesday, Gallagher said: “He’s seen people climbing over a fence from next door and he’s given chase. He’s managed to get hold of one of the two but the other has picked up a brick or a concrete slab and attacked him. He could have been killed.”

Crolla, known as ‘Million Dolla Crolla’, is much-loved by Manchester fight fans, having resurrected his career following a damaging defeat in 2012.

The former British champion is known as a tough street fighter but with a heart of gold.

Just saw this, so many issues with boxers lately, particularly British boxers. In relatively safe places being effected by 'random' acts of crime. Makes you wonder really.

****ed up ****, hopefully he recovers ok. Got to wonder if he'll ever pass a medical again to fight mind, not sure if theres any precedent on a fractured skull!

Always comes across as a good guy, dont think anyone has a bad word to say about him! Sums him up here, trying to help a neighbour.

Edwin Valero is the only boxer that comes to mind and look what happened to him

Got to feel for Crolla. Hope he goes on to make a full recovery.

Malinaggi is simultaneously the most intelligent and most stupid person in the business. Regardless it's good listening to what he has to say and brings plausible points to the table. It's not my place to speculate if it's true or not, but definitely something to think about.

Valero couldn't get a licence to fight in many states, from memory he only fought in Texas and California whom in all honesty would licence anyone to fight. The majority of the rest of his fights were in the Americas and in Asia where the guidelines/precautions are nowhere near as harsh. I'd be surprised if Crolla is licensed to continue his career in the UK. If he wanted to continue I'm sure he'd need to fight abroad almost exclusively.

Mohammed Ali in hospital with pneumonia hope he recovers.

Boxing legend Muhammad Ali in hospital with pneumonia

Former three-time heavyweight champion boxer Muhammad Ali has been taken to hospital with a mild case of pneumonia, his spokesman says.

Ali, who suffers from Parkinson's disease, is in a stable condition, Bob Gunnell told media.

"The prognosis is good," Mr Gunnell added, saying the 72-year-old's stay in hospital was likely to be brief.

He gave no other details and asked that the privacy of Ali's family be respected.

Ali was diagnosed with Parkinson's in 1984, three years after his retirement from boxing.

He appeared in public at a ceremony in September in his hometown of Louisville for the Muhammad Ali Humanitarian Awards.
