On the PED thing, interesting that Canelo really rallied in the late rounds of the first fight, whereas he faded in them now. His 'second wind' was nowhere. Obviously also proves nothing, but interesting to consider.

He also fought different fights.Originally posted by Zapater View PostOn the PED thing, interesting that Canelo really rallied in the late rounds of the first fight, whereas he faded in them now. His 'second wind' was nowhere. Obviously also proves nothing, but interesting to consider.
First fight he was on the back foot slot more
Tonight he was center ring and initiating slot more. Very hard to keep that constant pressure up for 12 rounds

It was a bull**** decision again, albeit not as bad as the first corrupt as **** decision. GGG has his record tarnished now by winning both fights, yet somehow ending with a D & L on his record. **** drugs cheats, **** Goldenboy and **** boxing politics.
Crazy that we need a 3rd rubber to decide a match up which the Champion has won both fights, yet is no longer a champion and ended up with a draw and loss! ha ha GGG must be ****ing furious.

At some point today I am going to watch it again and see if my opinion changes. I thought Golovkin won it by a couple of rounds but they were some very close rounds that could have gone either way. I felt it could have been scored a draw (which iirc Bunce had it) but I don't think Canelo did enough to win it. Thing is speaking to friends, browsing some of the boxing fans forums, there are quite a few that do feel Canelo edged it. Haye was one of them.Originally posted by Zapater View PostObvious that Canelo gets the gift decision. I think Golovkin comfortably won the last 4 rounds. So they're saying that there wasn't 2 or 3 rounds for the rest of the bout? I get the draw, kind of. But I don't accept Alvarez winning that, even by 1 round. Yes, there were close rounds, but that means that they ALL went Canelo's way on all 3 judges scorecards. Not happy with that decision.
I know it isn't a means to judge a fight, but Golovkin wasn't ever in trouble where Canelo was exhausted and hurt twice. Just because Alvarez was holding his position and moving forward , doesn't mean he was winning all of the early rounds either.
Said it after the last fight and I'll say it again. If there's another fight, it should be in Germany. Obviously it wont happen, but GGG lives there and it would be a giant stadium fight where Canelo wouldn't get a thing on any scorecard.
Overall, I enjoyed the fight. Can't remember a moment where either fighter spent time on the ropes. It was a very good technical fight with both fighters going on the attack.

Scored it 115-113 in favour of GGG myself, but was the sort of fight that could have been scored a close win either way tbh.
GGG fought the better fight for me, but Canelo fought in a style that is favoured by some judges and can see how that would have made it easier for him to pick up points.
The bit that caught my eye was how, in the eyes of two of the judges, Canelo won two of the final four rounds. For my money GGG won all four of them and especially the final round. If the final round went to GGG on all cards then it would have finished a draw.
Round 9 I could not get why a judge gave it to Canelo either as he was hurt in that round with GGG very much the better during the round.I don't hate people. I just feel better when they aren't around.

Some interesting stats there, and the % of landed punches is what catches my eye. Accuracy will catch the eye when you are ringside, and Canelo was a lot more accurate than I thought he was. The difference in body shots is waaaaay more than I thought it was as well.I don't hate people. I just feel better when they aren't around.

Compubox is a rather flawed system. Correct me if I'm wrong but to my knowledge it basically has guys monitoring fights manually pressing a button when they believe a fighter has landed a clean shot. So it's probably the most accurate means of getting some raw data but there is a big human error component to it.
If it happened in a different fight, I wouldn't scrutinise the judging so closely, but Canelo is always on the right side of a decision. It's happened consistently, gets the UD in something he's scraped through and has got the decision in a few that he has lost. The Mayweather scorecard is one of the most disgraceful scorecards I've ever seen in boxing. I find it hard to give Canelo more than a single round in that bout, but one of the judges somehow scored it a draw.
The Pacquiao - Marquez fights were also pretty bad for me. I struggle to see how Pacquiao won any of them, let alone 3. The 3rd fight was the clearest UD win I've ever seen and not one judge had it in Marquez's favour. Lara vs Paul Williams (and Canelo for that matter) was also a shocker.
The Trinidad and de la Hoya one was also a bit of a contentious one, but Oscar can only blame himself after throwing the last 3 rounds, where it was possible Trinidad stole a couple of those other rounds. We need to remember that it's 12 short fights, not one long one from a scoring perspective but judges really need to be looked at. In both of these fights I would say over 85% of 'experts', media, fans, ex-fighters etc had Golovkin winning. How is it that the judges are the only people who conclusively think that the fight was different?
In terms of being at the venue, the pro-Alvarez crowd could influence things, but judges at this level should be immune to this. It's just too many fights, consistently given Canelo the rub of the green. Really pisses me off.
Well that was a good prediction, don't know if anyone caught it but what a hook. Perfect for his stupid moustache.Originally posted by Zapater View PostI've been smashing Jameson as well. Going to get a few hours and try to be up for the main event. Will definitely record though.
For the undercard; Jaime Munguia looks a good prospect, so is worth a watch. Lemieux wiping the smugness from Spike O'Sullivan's face with a KO should also provide entertainment, but I'm definitely not waking up for that.

Spike is a bit of a funny one for me. When he boxes I want to see him lose, but away from the ring he comes across as a very sound bloke and gets involved with a lot of great causes in Cork city like the Penny Dinners organisation and others.
Think he tries a bit too hard to make himself a "character" when doing anything boxing related and probably needs that charater side to hype himself as talent wise he is pretty much a run of the mill fighterLast edited by Doc_Piptorious; 17-09-18, 10:51 AM.I don't hate people.
