Yes, definitely. He got seventh at the 2010 Giro and won Paris-Nice this year. He can climb, he can time trial, he can survive a three week tour in good condition and he's proven he can lead a team.

And he's just entering his prime.

He's supposedly earmarked to lead Sky at the Vuelta this year although he might be too knackered and I suppose it's possible, although unlikely I think, that Wiggins might ride it.

Suppose you have a physicist and a sociologist standing at the side of a field, observing a set of events unfolding on the field. The physicist does [describes] it using the terminology of mass and velocity and frequency of radiation and the rest. And the sociologist does it by describing it as a rugby match.

May the Lord bless this post.

I like Richie. Did you know he once wore underpants under his knicks? Who knew!

I didn't know that. I don't feel I've benefitted from the knowledge but never mind.

I like him too. It was so surprising to see him blow on the second Pyrenean stage. I hope it was just an aberration for him and doesn't become a habit. One bad day on a Grand Tour is all it takes.

This descent is crazy and not helped by the fact the road isn't dry when under the trees.

And now it's raining, just as the yellow jersey group go over the top.

These herberts running alongside and jumping out in front of the riders must be so off putting not to mention dangerous.

I often wonder that. Porte almost got knocked off too!

Will Porte be thrown off the race? Will Froome get a time penalty?

I take it that is a major rule break?

consumed an energy bar in the final kms..illegal..

It's not against the rules to consume food or drink, but you're not allowed to get it from the car/team in the final kilometres.

It's not a major infraction and happens reasonably often. But it is the kind of thing that a group of race commissaires intent on throwing their weight around could blow out of proportion. But they haven't so it was definitely a good move by Froome - a deliberate foul to stop the opposition scoring, so to speak.

I always thought Froome would get a small time penalty but I thought it possible they might want to make an example of Porte. Pour encourager les autres etc.
