Agree with Neil, it looks like you would be paying a design premium for the Bones. The Sentinel is just as simple to use and a lot cheaper.

Ideally, I want a towbar mounted rack, but I don't have the ££££ for that just now.

Daniel, I don't know why we bother tbh.

Suppose you have a physicist and a sociologist standing at the side of a field, observing a set of events unfolding on the field. The physicist does [describes] it using the terminology of mass and velocity and frequency of radiation and the rest. And the sociologist does it by describing it as a rugby match.

May the Lord bless this post.

Erm, thanks for your time and effort replying chaps.

But I've decided I'm going to leave it for the time being.

Bike people. What sort of bike would you recommend for someone who wants a basic bike (£400ish) and uses it say 20% off road and 80% on road and cycle paths? I really have no clue.

I've been using my old one a lot recently, really enjoying the rides out. But the bike is old and the brakes are terrible, Tyres are worn and the seat is horrible. It's also quite heavy.

Advice anyone? I realise this thread is all about Reece. But I didn't want to start a new thread in case it upset him.

As I'm now the forum's resident bike expert, I'd say get a hybrid.

                Yeah, probably a hybrid. Half-panda, half-cyclist.

                    Are you being sarcastic?

If so, I think Reecie was being serious and I certainly was (about the hybrid, that is).

I don't know much about hybrids because I had one and didn't like it and have no use for off-road anyway. But others have posted about them in this very thread so you could check out their posts or ask them direct perhaps.

Two sets of tyres (one smooth set for on-road, one knobbly for off) is probably a good idea if you're mainly going to be riding one or the other, not a mix of each.

I was being serious. And I was basing my advice on iForestBloke's advice earlier in the thread as I'm clearly not really an expert

Just been to the bike shop and bought:

A travel pump with built in pressure gauge.
                      A gel saddle cover thing.
                      A puncture repair kit.
                      A rear mud guard.
                      Two protein gels.

                      Serious business this.

I was being sarcastic. Lowest form of wit sorry. I've been told Hybrid before. But I've also been told about TriCross. Just wanted an informed opinion. Thanks though, at least it gives me a place to start looking.

What about brakes? Disc or Pad? I read back over the thread and couldn't see much about them. I want something that is fairly reliable, but not something that will throw me over the handle bars

If it's 80% road, I'd say v-brakes (i.e. pad). Discs are better for off-road but expensive to fix when they go wrong.

But you need advice from hybrid riders. Might be worth looking at http://www.bikeforums.net/forum.php

Good to know. I was leaning towards discs as they look cooler..... But after hearing that I might think again. Had a poke around that forum. Think I'll sign up and annoy everyone there instead

Ohh I won't be talking about bikes on there. Might start a few match threads and maybe a WAYLTATM thread.
