Degenkolb. The expected winner but thanks to the crash not won in the expected way.

    GC after stage 5.

Suppose you have a physicist and a sociologist standing at the side of a field, observing a set of events unfolding on the field. The physicist does [describes] it using the terminology of mass and velocity and frequency of radiation and the rest. And the sociologist does it by describing it as a rugby match.

May the Lord bless this post.

Today should be a sprinters stage - flat as they come really.

      Cavendish will fancy it.

That's ok. I listened to the Beach Boys recently. I didn't make it to the end of track 2.

I must say, I'm not following it as avidly as before, but I'm keeping an eye on it all. Plus the updates on 5 Live during the day help.

I can't believe it was on the main 6pm news on R4 the other day. It won't be if Wiggins drops out of contention though!

Adam Hansen with his first finish! He's a Cairns local too. Only cyclist to compete in three Grand Tours too

Last season. Not ever. Just to clarify.

He was really strong, although he looked to be dying on that final hill! Great ride, great victory.

I've been uneasy about Wiggins' chances since before he lost time a few days ago. He was too far back going uphill. Then letting a gap go on the downhill in the wet, he's not got it, either in the legs or in the head. And exactly the same pattern happened yesterday, with an even worse outcome for him.

The forecast a couple of days ago was for wet conditions to continue for across next week so Nibali and the others will put him under pressure every time they can. He needs a massive victory today just to put himself back in contention. And even then he's going to have perform better than ever in the mountains and hope the weather improves.

Brilliant win for Dowsett but an even better result for Nibali. Wiggins would have won but for the bike change but then again he could still have won despite that if he hadn't cornered on the downhills like a man who crashed yesterday. Poor day for Hesjedal, good one for Evans and Scarponi.

Nibali is favourite by a mile now. The only thing against him now is that all his rivals now know he's the one to beat and maybe they'll gang up on him and put his team under pressure.

No code has to be inserted here. It's still quite tight I suppose, no big gaps in the top 10, but that doesn't change the fact that Nibali seems strongest and the remaining ITT should play to his strengths more than today's.

Yup, the bike change hurt him but the descending from him today was woeful; still he made up a bit of time on his rivals but it could and should have been far more.

I just can't see him winning this now tbh, Nibali is certainly the favourite
