It's ridiculous. Might as well cancel all other cricket and just play them all the time. I want to see us play Pakistan, West Indies and all the other teams. As much as Ashes cricket is amazing, with the intensity etc, playing them every year virtually will drastically lessen its impact.

A couple of aussie film makers and cricket nerds are making a film about this at the moment. They question how the only teams England play are seemingly Australia, India and South Africa and rarely play any others. Australia and India ditto. Leaving the "lesser" nations to play each other. I cant even remember the last time we played a test against New Zealand for example. Its clearly all about money....but they wanted to delve deeper and ask the hard questions to all the boards.

Basically they've just been interviewing all the cricket boards asking why certain teams play each other and others just get left out in the cold. Apparently everyone wanted to have their say on things and clear their names, so theres some great footage of people digging themselves out of a huge hole.

Sounded really interesting, they reckon it will be out either late this year or early next year.

Sounds good mate - link us up if you get the chance

Cricket is very badly run. What with the whole India/DRS crap, the fact everyone (but England more than anyone else) plays way too much cricket, constant cricket in fact, the scheduling, lack of time to prep for tours, shambolic umpiring, ludicrous 8 week World Cups, the fact the top teams only seem to play each other....etc. Badly needs an overhaul.

Didn't England play a couple of tests against New Zealand in 2013?

                EDIT

They did. They had a three month tour last year

                England to New Zealand 2013:
Tuesday, January 29 - England arrive into Auckland
Monday, February 4 - New Zealand XI England, Cobham Oval, Whangarei (T20 warm-up)
Wednesday, February 6 - New Zealand XI England, Cobham Oval, Whangarei (T20 warm-up)
Saturday, February 9 - First Twenty20 International at Eden Park, Auckland
Tuesday, February 12 - Second Twenty20 International at Seddon Park, Hamilton
Friday, February 15 - Third Twenty20 International at Westpac Stadium, Wellington
Sunday, February 17 - First ODI at Seddon Park, Hamilton
Wednesday, February 20 - Second ODI at McLean Park, Napier
Saturday, February 23 - Third ODI at Eden Park, Auckland
                Wednesday, February 27 - Saturday March 2 - NZ XI v England, Queenstown Events Centre (four-day warm-up)
Wednesday, March 6 - Sunday, March 10 - First Test at University Oval, Dunedin
Thursday, March 14 - Monday, March 18 - Second Test at Hawkins Basin Reserve, Wellington
Friday, March 22 - Tuesday, March 26 - Third Test at Eden Park, Auckland

Double Edit - Harv is an Aussie, right? So 'we' is referring to Australia playing New Zealand. might as well ignore this post. No idea when Australia last played New Zealand.

There is a series ever two years innit, so 2015 makes sense.

Hmmm. Sounds more like they want the money than anything else. If this series in Oz had merely been "brought forward", rather than "**** it let's have an extra series", then the next one here should be 2017, but they're squeezing another in.

Yeah, when you put it like that. Still, be good to thrash them in 2015. Looking forward to it

We play windies quite often, don't we?

But yeah, problem is cricket is only a popular spectator sport here, India and Australia.

Not in the Windies, it's been a long time since England toured the Carribean.

                          Edit: it was 2009.

So it's been 4 years, I guess we'd be having test matches there now if there wasn't a T20 tournament.

So is selection, too quick on the next best young thing (barring Carberry), there isn't much mileage in the county games or overseas ala shield cricket for any of the current English set up. Very little variation in the bowling, which at this level is unheard off. I think Flintoff mentioned something a few years ago when playing in the IPL, he was amazed at the variety of bowling, compared to what he had in his own locker. Way, way too much test cricket is played in England, they need to re-learn the hard graft on a county circuit
