I've found something as simple as walking the dog twice a day has had me lose a good bit of weight and I feel loads better. I don't want to get slim, though, I want to get muscle so should do some bodyweight stuff, really.
Discipline is my problem, if I can put it off I will.
Good to hear so many of you guys keeping at it.

my weight problems started soon after I lost my beloved dog
    RIP Dodger 1988-1998

you don't walk anything like as much purely because you don't have to

bike is great but must admit you do feel very vulnerable !

Good initiative. How long distance and duration wise is your cycle ride to and from work.

I work with a couple of guys who cycle short distances to work and this is not enough for them to count it as exercise. So they take detours on the way to and from work to ensure they have cycled at least 30 minutes each way

I hear you. I'm naturally quite lazy but having to be responsible for the dog's exercise and toilet routine is good for making sure I stick to it.
Came home after xmas drinks, last month, hammered and still took dog walking. She was looking at me like "what's wrong with your legs, mate?"

mine was an English Bull Terrier so didn't really have that problem, he'd walk but certainly didn't pester me for one

Mine's a German Shepherd. She doesn't so much pester me for a walk, though if I have my coat on she gets excited. She's so used to going to the loo on our walks that if I'm not home, she sits and whimpers until I get home. Mrs lets her out into garden but she refuses to go .

I hated dogs before the wife insisted on getting one, can't see myself without one now.

            Bit of a hijack, sorry.

Am I the only person who hates being drunk around the dog?

I'm lucky that my journey to work is about 5 miles each way, nice and flat, although there are 'hills' you don't notice in a car. Its taking me around 25 mins at the moment, hope to improve with fitness and weather conditions

only bought a basic bike, £150 from £300 in Halfords sale
its Alloy which means its nice and light and Hybrid which means it looks like a mountain bike but more set up for road use

highly recommended, not on it today because of the ice this morning but intend to have a go when I get in later

Good for you, weight should drop off you steadily now you are cycling and watching the types of things you are eating

Suppose you have a physicist and a sociologist standing at the side of a field, observing a set of events unfolding on the field. The physicist does [describes] it using the terminology of mass and velocity and frequency of radiation and the rest. And the sociologist does it by describing it as a rugby match.

May the Lord bless this post.
