Got round 10k in 41:36. My best 10k time by about 3 minutes. Speed sessions must be doing something.

I can only dream about what my time would have been had I not snaffled a big plate of profiteroles at lunchtime.

Good news is my foot isn't broke, although still cant run on it. Did a load of cycling and upper body stuff. Felt good after a 5 day break.

I go nuts if I have 2 days off. A week must be driving you mad. Is it a sprain or muscle issues?

I'm not sure mate. Just whole of my foot hurts when you bend it, such as you crouch down and are on tip toes, hurts plus the ankle feels jarred. I ordered a pair of gel running trainers last week and am waiting for them to be delivered before running again. I think I knackered it as the trainers I had been using had no cushioning in. I'm hoping the new trainers and rest will solve it.

I didn't want to go yesterday and that was my worry, have a break and lose motivation to keep going. But I did and it was OK. Those sit down bikes are weird though.

Bob when you get your shoes bring them to a running store and ask them to analyse your gait and whether the shoe is suitable. They'll generally do it free of charge so buy a pair of running socks or something to thank them for their time. If the shoe is wrong get a refund and buy within their recommendations.

Such as sports direct? Useless in there. Or do you mean an independent?

Go for an independent or a smaller chain such as

A specialist running store should have more specific knowledge in picking the right shoe for you.

Thanks mate, there's one about 6 miles away.

I've bought a pair of asics gel based from eBay at a third of normal price, dozy ******* misspelt the advert so only I bid on them. I'm hoping they'll do the job, I tried on a pair in sports direct and they feel nice. But I'll also check out that shop and see if they can advise.

I tend to shy away from gait analysis these days, Bob but its useful to get it done to make sure you don't have some huge pronation thing going on. I use ASIC gel 33s myself but they are mainly my minimalist trainer (transition for barefoot running). Comfy though.

A rule of thumb that has served me well over the years is if in doubt by a pair of Nike Pegasus. They're pretty cheap, as cushioned as a pair of spaceboots and come in some smashing colours. Another decent one that you can usually pick up cheap is the Lunarglide which gives a bit more structure and support. But as Dan says get checked out first. Sweatshop are really helpful but I find them to be quite expensive. See what they say then check out these chaps online

                        Or

You can pick up out of season sneakers from the 2nd site at brill prices.

I don't bother with gate analysis either.

Anyone running is this weather? I've increased my distances working towards 10k and am currently doing a 7.3k run, which is taking just under 40mins. I'm finding it hard but using Adidas Micoach to track stats and am seeing that as I increase distance the speed is contstant. Not sure I have it in me to get to 10k at the moment, I can't believe how hard it is!

I took it up a few weeks back. Started with the couch to 5k plan. On about week 7 now I think.

**** me its hard in this weather, I am finding myself getting up early and running before 7/8am to get it in.

Your quest for 10k sounds like mine for 5k at the moment. Its only a little more but it seems a long way off.

Almost a week into Slim & Save VLCD and after a tough first 4 or 5 days it has become much easier.

Haven't weighed myself yet, that's tomorrow but my clothes are feeling fairly baggy.
