Flipping hell, why have my legs started to hurt after I run. I'm really sore after only 5k. I'm stretching before and after too whereas I never used to bother. Time wise I'm now consistently doing 5k in under 27 mins even when I'm not really in to it. Did my fastest mile today, 7:54. That's probably how fast some of youse run backwards

Suppose you have a physicist and a sociologist standing at the side of a field, observing a set of events unfolding on the field. The physicist does [describes] it using the terminology of mass and velocity and frequency of radiation and the rest. And the sociologist does it by describing it as a rugby match.

I'm still injured. My thigh still feels a bit, er, odd - delicate, a bit weak, not sore but just, well, there, if you see what I mean. So I haven't been on the bike for 16 days now and it's so difficult to stay off it with the sun actually shining right now.

But it's probably for the best. Grade 1 strains are supposed to be rested for three weeks according to Dr Internet. And I'll probably take a bit longer to heal due to my great age.

Has anyone else suffered a minor strain like that? Did you wait until you had no symptoms or get back into exercise gradually while it was still noticeably less than 100%?

Do you stretch cold or after a few minutes light running?

Could be that your stretching muscles too early and that's causing pain later on. Definitely stretch afterwards but, provided you start off slow and build up your pace, you shouldn't need to beforehand.

Could be something in that, the first 1/4 mile is downhill and I pelt it to get my average speed up

A lot of people run a race to see who is fastest. I run to see who has the most guts, who can punish himself into exhausting pace, and then at the end, punish himself even more.

I have been using compression socks lately and I think they are brilliant, especially for the older runner like myself.
Running bug had an article about them last week. Interesting stuff. How did you work the fit out? Did you have to do all the measurements or did you just have a guess?

They look rather St Trinnians. Definitely credibility killers

And good luck with the Belfast half. What's it like? Big crowds to break through or a clear rub?

I went out and played 20/18s last night and my legs just died on the way back in.

Is it normal for weight trainers to have back problems or is it technique or lack of proper support?

You need to listen to your body fella. This is the third time recently. You are possibly overdoing it or maybe your body has reached it limit

I saw a dead fish on the pavement and thought "what did you expect?"
There's no water round here stupid, should have stayed where it was wet

It's a combination of age, misfortune, officework, overload and stress I'm told. I've ****ed up the ligament that runs from your pelvis round up your hip and into your arse. Not pleasant and ligaments take about 8 weeks to sort, although he didn't indicate I'd need to stop training completely for that time.

Absolutely covered in Deep Heat, so that should scare people off on the train & tram hopefully!

Norbs, if you are pushing PBs etc aye you can get injuries fairly regularly cos you're always pushing you body to the limit which means any little niggle is hammered. People who just lift for show don't get as many injuries I suspect but then that ain't what I'm about!

Sposed to be strutting ma funky stuff on the dance floor tomorrow but even walking aint fun!

Aye. I've been told not to push PBs till the rest of my life is settled/ head clear. Defo not on lower body stuff.
