      Slinky: 5.03km

Cross Country today and it was BRUTAL!!! Course chewed to bits, wrong sized spikes and did something crazy with my back halfway through the first lap. Tough, tough race. Tomorrow's recovery run is going to be a slow one
A lot of people run a race to see who is fastest. I run to see who has the most guts, who can punish himself into exhausting pace, and then at the end, punish himself even more.

          Hi Rich
I feel like packing in after today. It was a bit extreme. It's my first year of XC and up until today courses have been largely dry. Today was my first proper muddy one and by the time the men started there'd already been 5 races on the course so it was ****ed! I think I'm going to have to incinerate my spikes as I'm never getting them clean again! Massive winds, massive hills, ankle deep puddles. Great fun!

          How's the trainer hunt going?

I jet washed mine before I took them off and then stuck them under a radiator stuffed with newspaper

I've not started shopping yet, still want to master not landing on my heels before I do away with the cushioning

Right I'm getting involved now, seems like good motivation. Does it have to be in km? Did a 14.5m today so is that 23'sh?

How many of you have read Born To Run? I never read anything to do with sport and I'm loathe to read anything that makes outlandish "anyone can run 100 miles" with no real backup other than they did it themselves. A friend who runs told me it's great and the stories are excellent. Anyone else think it's worth a whirl? Is it helpful for running and how?

Is that the one about the Tarahumara Indians? If so, I can see why you feel the need to ask; I've always assumed it would be more interesting than technically informative.

Yeah exactly - there's lots about the white guy who died mysteriously and who had lived with the Indians for years. Mind you, I couldn't read a book about technical details of running so I suppose I don't know what I want. Have you read Murakami's running book?

Yep. Enjoyed it but mainly because I really like Murakami; it offered some insight into him and what shapes his work. I found myself knowingly nodding a lot when he went into his love for running and the ethos that's behind it for him, but if you haven't read it you're certainly not going to be picking up tips or anything! A little inspiration at most.

My Murakami bias blinded me to anything but love for 'what I think about...' But born to run is pretty good. The part where the tamahura dress as nazis before anally violating themselves on trees, following a sister ****ing frenzy was unexpected but hey ho.

Worth reading. If for McDougals musings on the development if sports shoe tech alone.

I've just got a barbell and a couple of dumbells. I want to improve my core strength and shoulders (always been weak).

Is there a good exercise plan I can follow that I can turn into a calendar printout?

Mind if I join? 6ft 6. 16lbs 10. Need to get fit, lose weight and stop using booze to relax.

I need some of Pablo's motivational bullying in my life.
