My club hill session from Tuesday plus tonight's 9.2 miles. Also tried a Beet It concentrate shot before my session. It was ****ing horrible!!! But averaged 7.10/ mile over the 9 and a bit so maybe there's something too it. Utterly disgusting stuff though!
A lot of people run a race to see who is fastest. I run to see who has the most guts, who can punish himself into exhausting pace, and then at the end, punish himself even more.

When did you start running? That's some pace you are keeping up. Be interesting to see how long it's taken you.

I've been going about 7 years. Started in 2008 as I did the great north run for charity and just kept it up. I've been pretty dreadful at every sport I've ever tried but I like running and while I know I'll never be the fastest I think I can still improve a bit. My 5km times are usually in the 19 minutes (the lads I run with do 16-18s) and my 10k is agonisingly close to getting below 40 minutes. Was 3 seconds or something away last time. And I'm a sub 1:30 half marathon runner. But when I started I couldn't even manage 15 minutes on a treadmill. And apparently my technique is dreadful. It's a standing joke at my club about how quick I'd be... If I learned to run.

So it just takes time. This isn't intended to sound patronising but I was where you are 8 years ago and keeping motivated was a real ****er. Especially if you've had a knock. A couple of years ago I was training for a marathon. Got my training runs up to 18-19 miles, got the flu and a month later when I felt I could start training again I couldn't even manage 10k. Was tempted to jack it in and take up poker but you just have to start again and try not to get injured too quickly! I'm pretty impressed with the increase in frequency of runs in here though so think the motivational aspect of this thread definitely works.

My mate (a fitness instructor) with callipers. Would describe myself as lean, I do carry a bit of insulation but a fair bit more than most. Cannot remember why he told me I had to enter my age, but mebbe that could be a factor? I also had the 5 point one done- ie no legs, and my legs defo carry very little fat.
            3rd place. Worst champions ever.

Under 30:00 again, which I am pleased about. But I had to stop and walk for a stitch. Think maybe it was because I had porridge for breakfast and ran about an hour and a half later. Annoyed as I was on pace for a decent time.

Im the same mate, terrible at most sports.

Keeping motivation is hard, this thread helps as people tend to keep you honest.

My problem is that I have been ill twice, and having Asthma, everything that goes wrong goes onto my chest.

Ive gutted it out since the start of the year, so hopefully its now becoming a habit. I get frustrated if I dont go, and it really has helped with my stress levels. Nothing beats a good blast through.

That was a little tougher than usual this morning The air quality was terrible; pretty thick smog; it was noticeable in my breathing after a while Still a decent week banked with a possible run planned on Sunday morning too.

You think this air smog could be the reason I got a stitch? I notice its a little hazy, but I didnt think it was too bad?

Not sure on stitches, I rarely get them thankfully.

Where I run in North Wales is in this dip though, and whenever there's fog/smog it's at it's worst in this exact location. It's famous for it locally. That said I think the worst of it was on the East coast wasn't it? So I'm probably just making excuses

I'm trying to plan out an alternate "flat" 10km around work, but there's literally nowhere near here that's flat. Hills everywhere you look

All I was is a nice flat 10km route so I can aim for a 10km PB. The route I have now has a 3km continuous uphill section which gets extremely steep. I'm running around the 5 min per km mark until I get to this 3km section which then destroys my time

Can you find a River? I run along a tow path. Pretty much guaranteed to be flat then.

The nearest river is right down at the bottom of the hill. The problem is I need to get back up the hill again to reach my office

All this hill running is doing me good anyway, I can feel the benefit of it, but still I just want to run a flat route from time to time.

Missed out the run last night, didn't fancy deeply breathing in the **** air.

Do you only ever run at work then?
