    That looks decent.

The thing is I like to have my phone on me when I run anyway. What if I pull a muscle mid-run? What if there's an emergency at home and I need to dart home? A bit daft I know but it's comforting to know I still have my phone on me.

That said I got drenched yesterday, I was basically showered by the time I finished the run. My phone just survived it! I took the back off the phone last night and it was still wet behind there hours later. A lucky escape!

      Garmins
A lot of people run a race to see who is fastest. I run to see who has the most guts, who can punish himself into exhausting pace, and then at the end, punish himself even more.

I know what you mean but what's the likelihood of an emergency and one which happens when you've just left the house? I'm away for, at most, an hour so I think the risk is miniscule to be honest with you.

The Garmin is cheap but gets good reviews and has all the functionality that a runner like me needs.

Yep in reality it's a tiny risk. More for peace of mind than anything else I guess.

Do you take an iPod or something? I don't have one you see so I use my phone to track my run and listen to music.

What are all those lists for?

I went for a run for the first time this year yesterday

I ran from Hove to Brighton and back, along the seafront

It was ace, but I went with the Mrs who has ran half marathons in the past and she couldnt do it

She's fit, or rather there's no fat on her, but since she had our son she hasn't done any running whatsoever and instantly, like after maybe 2 minutes, she got stabbing pains in her right hand side. Said it felt a bit like cramp, but surely that wouldn't happen so quickly? She's gonna try again and if it continues see someone about it

            I was fine like

Gonna run the Brighton marathon next year I reckon. How much training is needed?
I saw a dead fish on the pavement and thought "what did you expect?"
There's no water round here stupid, should have stayed where it was wet

Doing a half on Sunday so just did a nice slow 8 miles to keep the legs alive

                  Hey fierce!!!!

It's sorta a motivational thing. You log your distances over a month and just generally see how you're getting on. Whether you're putting more miles in as the year goes on but I find that the lads who do post in here tend to gee each other up a lot. It's not a competition... Just for fun.

I suppose the logic is that if you've got someone keeping a tally on you you're more likely to run. It's honesty bar stuff too. **** knows why it's in km not miles though

And for a marathon you need to be running about 6 miles 5 times a week with one big run a week. Starting maybe at 12 and adding 2 miles a week till you get to 18/20. Do a couple of weeks of those then come back down to 14/15 so is say at least 3 months if you want a good time.

                            The Running Thread

Currently experiencing the other side of running at the moment. Mate is running the Thames path 100 mile race at the moment and I'm sat in a car park at 3:30 in the morning waiting for him to arrive - I'm absolutely ****ing frozen! Winner came through a few hours ago - 100 miles in just over 16 hours, just something else!

Bashed in a 1:28 at the Sunderland half this morning for a top 75 finish. Was gunning for a 1:25 but total race strategy fail put pay to that and I was massively hanging on to get home in the end. Still. It's a PB so while I'm disappointed with my own goat**** of a race I'm trying not to be too down about it.

Did a 25k hike during the week so haven't run since last weekend. Nice run in the sun to collect the car from last night's reveries.
