A lot of people run a race to see who is fastest. I run to see who has the most guts, who can punish himself into exhausting pace, and then at the end, punish himself even more.

Think I'm gonna suffer the same fate as you.

Shoulder never been right since I hurt it in April, but was gradually getting used to it. Went to fold up the attic ladders the other day though and whatever way I twisted my arm, my shoulder just gave way and has been aching since.

                  Very frustrating.

Back on my diet today too now the world cup is over and struggling big time with that too.

Wish I could be one of those happy fat people, life would be so much easier.
If we are all only happy when we are really winning in the end, when your race finishes, what life would that be?

I wasn't sure of his food intake so that's why I put question 6 on

With regards to the 3 shakes a day. If he is starting off with weights from basically a standing start. The quicker he can flood his body with nutrients, the faster he will build size at the start. Eat as normal but include the shakes to give your body plenty of fuel to regrow the muscle after a workout. If he is working out 3/4 times a week then he won't go lacking. Any excess protein that doesn't get used, just gets passed through by your body so it doesn't affect you.

I actually think more regular meals during the day, helps build leaner mass as opposed to bulking up first then cutting after. Saying that, I went the bulking up route and I'm finding it quite hard to cut. My training mate is a personal trainer and he does the 5-6 mini meals option and he's a lean well built cunt whereas I went "eat big to get big" mentality. It worked for me but I'm finding it hard to shift the excess size to show the physique underneath. I guess you can go either route depending on how serious you are about building a good shape

But as Fierce said, each to their own, diet has to be for you and you alone but the weights are generic to everyone with the basics exercises

I've forgot I posted this. Been so pre-occupied

                      I've got a routinue now.

Cardio - Row for 10mins Bike for 10mins and Run for 10mins thats during a lunch break at work, since we have a gym

Tone - Sit-Ups, Push Ups, Planks, Crunchs to a varying degree.

Weights - Still a novice here, so just Beiceps, Triceps, Shoulder Press, Military Row??

Food - I eat light before a session, but try to get as much food straight after.

I've toned up, but I guess I need to do more weights at heavier lifts to get bigger?

Chocolate milk works for me... And foam roller sessions after each run

A 8.8km of two halves last night. First 5km was good, even moderately pacey for me but that seemed to take it out of me and I trotted back home at a very steady pace.

Through rest and physio or are you still training properly?

I had just about got back into my routine about 2 weeks ago and only just started trusting my shoulder enough to do a full workout, so this set back has really pissed me off. I can still struggle through most of my exercises, but am now worried that I might be overcompensating with my left shoulder (good one) as it's getting quite sore now during each workout.

Cold baths / showers are the best things! Draws blood to the area to help them sucked recover!

Also a protein shake is a good way to help recover, I'm lactose intolerant - shabby I know! So I've got some herby leaf hippy protein but it still seems to do the trick. Also deep heat for a quick fix if you need to head straight back out there

For longer runs and races I've run with calve guards which I can't recommend highly enough, they're like old lady DVT socks but they're amazing!
