      Test match captain.

      He also had the best side in the world at his disposal. What happened when they retired? Lost to England at home and didn't win a test away from home for 3 years.

        Apart from Zaheer and Bhaji they had no bowlers whilst batters have generally struggled in non sub-continant conditions.

        What happened to the Aussies when there golden generation retired?
        All sides would dip when you lose that calibre of players.

        ODI rule in India, always have.. always will. To take an Indian side to no.1 is a great achievement.

        For me he is a fantastic captain, handling the pressure of being Indian captain is unreal. He is the ice man

          Also the man management of all those ego's by Dhoni is incredible.

          India's won f all with their 'golden generation' until Dhoni took over.

            Couple of mates of mine love him as Captain too. Seems to be loved at home, but not as much overseas.

              Loads of times this summer he has done stuff that cook would have been slaughtered for. Same when he was last in South Africa. He does the basics very well, but in the longer form he is bang average.

                He has definitely out-maneuvered Cook so far.

                Cook has been so busy getting slaughtered for what he has done. It is confusing to say Cook would get slaughtered for using the tactics the opposition captain is using whilst he is activiley tactically defeating Cook.

                One thing is for sure if England were one nil up after 2 matches, Cook would not be under the pressure he is right now.

                    Nigey could tactically out smart cook.

                    Indian seamers getting their lengths right has more to do with the score than the tactics being Iimplemented by both captains.

                          Too be fair to Flower, he was excellent for a couple of years as England coach. But his ideas got stale and didn't evolve to change with the game. I really hope his time away he has looked about and decided to approach things less boringly.

                              He was excellent - I was a huge fan. But yep he'd become stale - his style has a limited shelf-life and when England needed a clean break, a sea change even, we got more of the same in Moores. It's a baffling decision to give him the job of coaching the Lions.
