    Well happy for Delpo! Must have been horrible for Ivo out there v Delbo though, the worst returner on the tour needing breaks to come back for his country in the DC final.

      Novak has binned Boris in attempt to regain his competitive edge. I wonder if he will look to find another 'super coach'?

      I guess Boris will go back to commentating at Wimbledon, which he was pretty good at.

        Not a surprising decision however he's been at his most dominant best under Becker and only really slipped once that career slam was completed.

        It might work but for me its all about Djokovic and his mind thats what he needs to fix

          Its only surprising in that it definitely gives away Djokovic's mind set. Its an action that indicates he feels that the slump is permanent, he's had a bad 6 months, but he still won 2 slams in the calendar year..!

                Anyone got any experience with Tennis elbow? I've been playing about 3 or 4 times a week for the last 6 months and have acquired Tennis elbow it hurts like a bee-hatch in certain positions.

                I'm going to rest it for a couple of weeks over Christmas, but I suspect it may take a bit more TLC.

                Playing a bit further enhances what absolute machines elite Tennis players must be.

                      Isnt tennis elbow caused by poor technique and not holding the racquet properly

                        In all seriousness rest is absolutely the best thing to do in the short term

                        However you might need to look at some of the causes to prevent it occurring in the future

                        Do you have a one handed backhand? If so you might want to look at a two handed backhand that takes the strain away from your elbow. A two handed backhand is generally led by your non-dominant hand

                        You also want to look at whether you are gripping the racquet too tight and or over using your wrist too much (keeping the wrist flexed when it should be relatively loose). This causes the arm to lead with the elbow and puts further strain on or around the elbow joint

                        Also you want to check your racquet size as an oversized racquet head can again put strain on the elbow

                        I suffered a touch with tennis elbow a couple of years back when I started playing again (my daughters play at junior club level)

                        I played then with a 110 oversize racquet and had a one handed backhand and also gripped the racquet too tight

                        Now use a much smaller racquet (98 or 100) have a two handed backhand, I probably grip the racquet too firmly still but my forehand grip is now completely different and as such my wrist cannot be inflexible. My new grip also allows my arm to be fully utilised through the swing rather than just the lower half of my arm

                        I still get the odd twinge now and then but I think thats just because I dont warm up properly

                          Because I am just getting back into it, I was holding the racquet too loosely in my hand, causing a knock on effect up to my elbow. I've corrected it, and my technique is much better. I am occasionally playing some quite good stuff..!

                          Funnily enough, I've tried hitting two handed back hand for the first time ever. It takes a bit of getting used too, but gives some quite nice control.

                            Most of us oldies have grown up using the continental grip (the old hold the racquet as though you are doing a handshake)

                            Try changing it to a western or semi western grip

                            I played as a kid and got back into it a couple of years back. I had no lessons as a kid but last couple of years I have taken over some of my daughters lessons when they have been ill / unable to attend

                            A few lessons can make a huge difference, lots of the stuff that was the foundation of tennis in the 70's & 80's is just not valid now and most of the fixes are pretty easy to learn and actually make a lot of sense

                              Interesting, I've not thought about my grip at all I'll have a chat with my 'coach' about that.

                              I actually did have a few one to one lessons, and the difference is incredible. These are the first lessons I've ever had really in Tennis other than a few real basics. I've got real control (mostly) now on my forehand, and can hit with various pace and spins (at times) where as I was mi****ting a lot to begin with.

                              I'm doing Cardio tennis twice a week, and then a group class which is more technique based on a Weds night. And then the odd private lesson thrown in.

                              I really regret not having lessons when I was a kid now, I always had a reasonable amount of natural ability, plus I'm 6'3 so height has always helped.

                              The great thing about Tennis is you can play it as you get older, my Aunt plays league tennis and is going to be 80 next year.

                                I changed my grip its now somewhere between a western and semi western, I have found to enables me to generate far more top spin and also has improved my racquet path through to the shoulder. Its also excellent for the windscreen wiper forehand

                                I'm currently injured so not allowed to play (havent played for 4 months and got another 2 or 3 months out ) but its a great game

                                My daughters both have individual lessons and have twice weekly squad training. My eldest is built to be a tennis player but lacks focus but she has good technique and is quite strong despite only being rake thin

                                My youngest isnt athletic at all, but she is a bit OCD and has honed her technique. My guess is she will probably end up being the better player as she has the drive to want to be the best
