To reach the peak in your 50s like the horse jumper is great stuff and it puts the overblown Premier League in its place. The Olympics are great! They truly represent sporting endeavour, and it's always amazing to see sportsmen and women who have dedicated so much for so long getting a tiny bit of the spotlight.

Did anyone see Lutalo Muhammads performance and interview. That's the kind of thing that makes the Olympics special. He was absolutely devastated to miss out in gold. Poor fella.

I think it's the combination of watching unheralded athletes compete in career defining events that happen only every 4 years, which is exactly against the sport we normally watch (Football) where the adulation is guaranteed on a weekly basis. Plus, as you say you've got to cheer for someone!

The realisation in that interview that he had worked hard for 4 years to miss out in the last second coupled with the realisation that he'd have to do it all again, to stand a chance in Tokyo was totally compelling and moving. It was a great interview, he should be proud of himself.

Sport should hurt.
