24 golds so far for GB.
I'm not a Nationalist at all, but I'm really enjoying this. So many people putting in the countless hours and being recognised for it. And deservedly so. To reach the peak in your 50s like the horse jumper is great stuff and it puts the overblown Premier League in its place. First ever Friday Premier League game?Blown out of the water by women's hockey, taikwondo and horse jumping. Good.
To think that just 20 years ago, GB came home with a solitary gold.
This is indeed a golden era, to be treasured for many years to come.Oh I don't know.

All very good Dom, but has your Olympic Council president won any medals for corruption?Originally posted by dom9 View Post24 golds so far for GB.

The Olympics are great! They truly represent sporting endeavour, and it's always amazing to see sportsmen and women who have dedicated so much for so long getting a tiny bit of the spotlight.Originally posted by dom9 View Post24 golds so far for GB.

Did anyone see Lutalo Muhammads performance and interview. That's the kind of thing that makes the Olympics special. He was absolutely devastated to miss out in gold. Poor fella.Modifying post.

Heavy interview that. Poor lad.
This patriotism brought out by the Olympics is a very strange dichotomy innit. Stood up at 1am shouting and cheering for Mo, just cos he's British. And I am not patriotic at all. If he wasn't British I wouldn't be cheering for him. What's that all about? I think it's just nice to have people to root for, sport is much more fun that way. Thanks very much for being ‘This Mornings’ Farmer’

I think it's the combination of watching unheralded athletes compete in career defining events that happen only every 4 years, which is exactly against the sport we normally watch (Football) where the adulation is guaranteed on a weekly basis. Plus, as you say you've got to cheer for someone!
The realisation in that interview that he had worked hard for 4 years to miss out in the last second coupled with the realisation that he'd have to do it all again, to stand a chance in Tokyo was totally compelling and moving. It was a great interview, he should be proud of himself.
Sport should hurt.Modifying post.
