BFG has said what I wanted to say really. There is a history of oppression for black and Asian people which simply doesn't apply to child abuse and cancer, twisted though the jokes about them in this thread usually are.

There are a couple of things I'd like to add:

It seems to me the "jokes" about people dying or child abuse are based in the fact that we all know it's 'wrong' to laugh at them, the fact they are bad taste is the joke. The "jokes" about a lot of Asians living in Bradford or black guys having big dicks aren't trying to be funny in the same way. They play on the belief that those things are true. Perhaps there is an awareness that things like that aren't said in "polite society" but that transgression isn't part of the joke.

As for using "n***r," it's indefensible and I'm shocked it didn't alarm everyone. I know Subby is from Northern Ireland and I know the term isn't thought to be as loaded there as it is pretty much everywhere else (although I don't think it's as innocent as popular usage there would have it) but most of us don't live in Northern Ireland - a fact that Subby is aware of - and it's simply unacceptable.

I fully understand the nature of the material in this thread. Most of it I find dreadfully unfunny and some of it is pretty sick but I don't think that means I should object to them. As I said though, this case was different IMO. Equally I don't think it's a defence to say that the thread title is something of a health warning; it does not, IMO, give carte blanche to people to post anything and everything. This seems to me a reasonable parallel: posting a photo of child abuse would not be acceptable just because of a title saying "Beware: child abuse pics" or something similar.

I know, child abuse is illegal. Then again, so is spreading racial hatred.
