:haha: :haha: :haha: :haha: :haha: :haha:
Any amount of credibility left in the PL after yesterday's bribery incident, has now gone.
Perhaps he should have got some kind of award for his performance over his career, but for this season? Whata fuckin joke that is.

It's shocking. Benayoun has had a better season than Giggs, if they're going to start giving it to impact subs.

joke award he hasnt even been uniteds best left winger, that is rooney. okay hes played CM more often but he hasnt been uniteds best cm either. it stinks. i met him at the trafford centre once i was with my mum. my mum spoke to him in the cue and said his breath smelt of bad milk.

I dunno about this to be honest. On one hand Gerrard should have won it.
On the other hand as much as he plays for a team I hate it's hard to hate Giggs. He's a consumate pro with a lot of talent and as a long career as long as the PL itself.
First time I can remember ever agreeing with Fergie (and yes, it does make me feel a little ill) but it would have been wrong if he'd retired having never won it.
He's certainly not earned it on the season on the other hand so who the fuck knows, but I'm not exactly greatly upset.
Any other manc could go fuck themselves. Giggs, I'd not exactly vote for him but I'll not cry about it either.

He's been very successful - no argument, but player of the year?!!!!!!!!!!
It's just a fucking joke. They should have a lifetime achievement award or something, and then nobody could argue with that. Player of the year though?! :rash:
Purely a sentimental choice, not that this is justifying it in any way. The writers, as much as we may deride them, will not make such a ludicrous pick
Craig_H
27-04-09, 01:03 AM
It's a sentimental choice without doubt, but do people really think Premiership footballers have enough brain cells to think on that level? I certainly dont.
There's no way this award was genuinely voted for by the players.
This award, like yesterday's game at Old Toilet, was rigged.

No, they're probably not that clever, but they probably are thick enough to believe all they read in the papers, and Giggs got a lot of press around that time when he started about two games in a row and got his solitary goal of the season

Ashley Young - erm :haha: Shocking second half of the season.
Team of the year:
Van Der Sar
Johnson
Vidic
Ferdinand
Evra
Ronaldo
Gerrard
Giggs
Young
Anelka
Torres
Shit team
VDS FUCK OFF!!!! He has been shocking!! Reina or Schwarzer should surely be the keepers.
Kuyt has been far better and more influential than fucking Giggs. There's probably well over 10 players more deserving than Giggs. :shake:
Jesus Tittyfucking Christ this has tipped me over the edge. The FA is in Fergies back pocket for sure.
As people say it is a joke giving Giggs the award this season having started only 12 games. 8 assists is decent in that amount, but still far off being player of the year.
The only reason he gets the award is because of his age and what he has accomplished throughout his career - which is a totally different award.
Nominate him for the fucking golden foot or something, this is ridiculous.

Whatever Ferguson wants, Ferguson gets. :grr:
I'd like to remind you all that it's the players that vote for this, so I'm not really sure how Ferguson or the FA can have much of a say in it. Unless you really truly believe it's actually fixed? :crackoff:

Well i think that's the implication, is it a public vote...do we get to see who voted for who..or is it open to the fa just er...mis-counting the votes, that is the question. not..to be or not to be. he he.
Yeah but do people genuinely believe that? I mean, I don't really see what the FA have to gain on a particular player winning it.
It's a farcical outcome but I don't think there is any foul play involved.
undoubtably a great player and credit to himself his team and all that know him but a piss poor decision

I know, it's unlikely, but i would be interested to see how & who exactly does the collating of the votes, how many people actually are involved and get to see the votes as they are, not because i believe it's 'rigged', but just for transparency reasons, would take all this speculation away then, lets see which players voted for who is all, not a hard thing to do imo, we aren't talking millions of voters here, and i actually believe fans would be interested to see who voted for who.
Doesn't the second half of last season fall into the voting period? Still don't agree it should be him but you can see some players have seen him win the CL and PL and broken the Scum's appearance record.

This kind of poll is usually stupid and this one is no exception. The timing alone makes it farcical.
This kind of poll is usually stupid and this one is no exception. The timing alone makes it farcical.
Exactly as it's based on the first half (or two thirds) of the season, it doesn't take the whole season in context.
Why do people bother anyway? Does it matter?
wtf?!? :haha::haha::haha:

Haha WTF. Every single United fan I know thinks he's been well below par this season and he has. He's not fit to lick Alonso's boots FFS.
I used to like Barclay...:sigh:
Considering when it was voted for I think it is a reasonable choice. He was hugely influential first half of the season whether the assists/goal tallies show that or not. The fact the poll is held then is slightly moronic though.

I believe the votes were cast in February. Someone on TV said at the time the players got their voting slips Giggs had only started 9 games. How can anyone be hugely influential in such a small percentage of games played?
I always thought Giggs was their best player in the days when Beckham was first being over-rated by the media, but this season he's looked well off the pace. I honestly can't remember a single performance by him that's been anything above mediocre, much less hugely influential. He's now way, way past his best and I reckon, conservatively, that possibly 50 other players were more deserving of the award than him
Because he came on and changed lots of games - turning draws into wins. I bet if you look the record of United in the second halves of games was much better than in the first halves. From my memory the change often coincided with the introduction of Giggs and/or Scholes and it was their contributions that gave the foundation for many of the victories they gained.

I just heard Gordon Taylor talking complete b*ll*cks about it.
They want the voting slips back by the beginning of February yet "lots of things have been decided by then." Well, yes, the Carling Cup.
They call them nominees but if I understand it correctly that's wrong. The so-called 'nominees' are just the top six. No room for confusion there then.
They time it for now to avoid clashing with the Football Writers Award. Er, why? So they gain publicity at the expense of any credibility.
The way the PFA have handled this whole awards thing is pathetic. The fact the human carpet has won it despite being a fairly peripheral figure just shows it in an even worse light than usual.
Anyway it doesn't much matter. Football is about playing, winning and trophies not stupid awards.
What's next?

Thing is, results like this just denigrate the award itself, in years to come it won't be seen as worth winning because no-one will be taking it seriously....then again, it could already have come to that now.
Go to say of all the Mancs he's the one i despise the least, he's been given the sympathy vote as such. The whole list was farce anyway, stupid popularity contest.

That's a good question but has a very simple answer - English bias.
Young is one of the over-hyped young English prospects and a future mainstay of the Three Lions brand.
Ireland isn't.
The fact that Ireland is also a bit strange probably didn't help him either.
I was joking of course. Ireland deserves it over Young you guys are right... the Giggs one is just a sympathy vote

27-04-09, 07:44 PM
The PFA Award has historically almost always got it wrong for some reason. Rushie and Terry Mac were the only LP players to get it a few years back when we dominated for nearly two decades. Our players were just disliked. The writers' award usually gets it spot on. We used to win that year in year out. Gerrard will win that this year. The award to Giggs in my opinion is an unintentional but hugely embarrassing thing to happen to a player who's been an outstanding player for MU for best part of 20 years. The clues were in the "nominations". 5 Man U players out of 6 in what has been a fairly average season for them performance wise. Those stats 12 starts and one goal are shocking. Dossena's outscored him :haha:

A few of them might have but in them days they weren't handed out to working class sports players. Seems to have been a buck in that trend recently hence a few knighthoods in recent times.

Or indeed win more than one gold at the Olympics and you're a shoe in. Steve Redgrave, Kelly Holmes, Chris Hoy etc
Matthew Pinsent and Ben Ainsley must be pretty pissed off.
Neil Young
28-04-09, 03:15 PM
Sir Matthew Pinsent, you mean? :eyebrow:
Ben Ainslie CBE and Bradley Wiggins CBE perhaps have a little cause for envy but it's not like they've done badly out of the system.
As for Giggs, the Honours system is farcical enough without awarding more dubious knighthoods to individuals playing in team sports most of the time in domestic competition and who, in Giggs' case, has managed to achieve precisely nothing playing for his country. That's not his fault of course because, um, it's a team sport, but if relative failure like that isn't a cause to withhold an honour then why is relative success a reason to bestow it?
Of course the reason is it's cheap populism by politicians.
Also don't forget that Giggs has been a multimillionaire for a long time - people like Hoy and Redgrave only make any money once they have achieved (repeated) Olympic success. In comparison Giggs hasn't had to make too many sacrifices at all.
An MBE or OBE is more than enough. So let's put a stop now to the rising clamour to make Ryan Giggs a minor deity - after all, it's only the PR being put about to justify what is otherwise a marginal case, at best, for his PFA award.
Ben_Itez
