Exactly as it's based on the first half (or two thirds) of the season, it doesn't take the whole season in context.

Why do people bother anyway? Does it matter?

      wtf?!?

One would think this was voted for by the referees, not the players.

      What a ****ing joke.

      Rigged. This too.

Patrick Barclay of the Times would have given it to Michael Carrick

Paddy Barclay thinks England can win the World Cup - I wouldn't take note of his comments. He is a blabbering idiot like the rest of them in The Times.

Haha WTF. Every single United fan I know thinks he's been well below par this season and he has. He's not fit to lick Alonso's boots FFS.

            I used to like Barclay...

Considering when it was voted for I think it is a reasonable choice. He was hugely influential first half of the season whether the assists/goal tallies show that or not. The fact the poll is held then is slightly moronic though.

I believe the votes were cast in February. Someone on TV said at the time the players got their voting slips Giggs had only started 9 games. How can anyone be hugely influential in such a small percentage of games played?

I always thought Giggs was their best player in the days when Beckham was first being over-rated by the media, but this season he's looked well off the pace. I honestly can't remember a single performance by him that's been anything above mediocre, much less hugely influential. He's now way, way past his best and I reckon, conservatively, that possibly 50 other players were more deserving of the award than him

Because he came on and changed lots of games - turning draws into wins. I bet if you look the record of United in the second halves of games was much better than in the first halves. From my memory the change often coincided with the introduction of Giggs and/or Scholes and it was their contributions that gave the foundation for many of the victories they gained.

I just heard Gordon Taylor talking complete b*ll*cks about it.

They want the voting slips back by the beginning of February yet "lots of things have been decided by then." Well, yes, the Carling Cup.

They call them nominees but if I understand it correctly that's wrong. The so-called 'nominees' are just the top six. No room for confusion there then.

They time it for now to avoid clashing with the Football Writers Award. Er, why? So they gain publicity at the expense of any credibility.

The way the PFA have handled this whole awards thing is pathetic. The fact the human carpet has won it despite being a fairly peripheral figure just shows it in an even worse light than usual.

Anyway it doesn't much matter. Football is about playing, winning and trophies not stupid awards.

The physicist does [describes] it using the terminology of mass and velocity and frequency of radiation and the rest. And the sociologist does it by describing it as a rugby match.

Gordon Taylor said that Didn't he tell someone to go to Russia or Zimbabwe and look at their voting system after someone commented on the farcical way this ballot system works. He talks an awful amount of crap.

That or words to very much the same effect.

He did talk about Zimbabwe and yes, he really does talk an awful lot of crap.

The fact that he is being paid a very high wage to spout this nonsense is beyond comprehension.

Thing is, results like this just denigrate the award itself, in years to come it won't be seen as worth winning because no-one will be taking it seriously....then again, it could already have come to that now.
