Ashley Young lost it for me in the game where Villa let the Mancs come back at the death last season. There is just something there which IMO holds him back, and it shows in his performances against the big clubs. He just falls short IMO and I would much rather go for Silva. Of course I will probably be proved wrong but that is just my take on it FWIW.

I share the view he'd do well if given time. He has certainly improved at Everton and there's no reason to believe that wouldn't be the case at somewhere like Manchester United. His trouble would be whether he could learn on the job quickly enough to satisfy fans and owners. And players, come to that.

Suppose you have a physicist and a sociologist standing at the side of a field, observing a set of events unfolding on the field. The physicist does [describes] it using the terminology of mass and velocity and frequency of radiation and the rest. And the sociologist does it by describing it as a rugby match.

That's 13¾ players. For all your fine theorising, you don't seem to have grasped the basic idea that there's only 11 in a team, including 1 goalkeeper.

It would explain why you wanted to sign old Sol. He'd be the ¾, yes?

The £14 target man they just bought, £26m for the pair is a big gamble for those two though.

There was a report in the Birmingham Post yesterday that said they were interested in yet another striker, Kaiser Chiefs FCs Focksintha Bocks for something like £4.5m, where on earth are they getting all the cash from?

Wolves set to tie up McCarthy deal

Hamilton youngster James McCarthy could be set for a move to Premier League new-boys Wolves after the two clubs agreed a fee.

The Republic of Ireland Under-21 international is now expected to hold talks with the Molineux club.

The 18-year-old has been the source of constant speculation about his future, having been linked with Celtic, Burnley and Portsmouth.

But he could be set to join Brian Easton in England's top-flight next term after his former Accies team-mate sealed a move to Burnley.

According to reports, Wolves had an initial offer for McCarthy rejected earlier this week, before coming back with an improved bid of more than £2million.

Asked if it would be a blow to lose McCarthy, Hamilton boss Billy Reid said "I think that's an understatement.

"To lose James would be a blow, the same as it was a blow to lose Brian.

"But it's not at that stage yet. That's really all I can say at the moment."

More to do with he is still recovering from injury unfortunately having a scout round the net. Would love it to be true though!

Wigan in the mix also... At £2M I'd take a chance

                                Why Barca, why?

FC Barcelona this evening completed a blockbuster move bringing Inter Milan striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic to the Nou Camp in exchange for Samuel Eto’o plus 40 million euros and Alexander Hleb who will be with Inter on a one year loan.

                                Updated 7/17/09 1:52AM EST
Friday morning in Barcelona TV3 Catalunya is quoting Catalunya Radio that Barça will pay between 40 and 50 million by the Swedish striker, as well as the operation in the transfer of Samuel Eto’o and the transfer of Hleb for a year. According to Radio Catalunya the negotiations ended in an early morning meeting that had Joan Laporta and Begiristain with Massimo Moratti, the president of Inter. Among the clubs the agreement is complete and is just what the players decide. Ibrahimovic and Barcelona have already negotiated and it appears that Eto’o has given the green light to play for José Mourinho.”
40m euros PLUS Eto'o? Seriously ****ed up, football has become.
