Most sensible quote that I've read so far... I understand that he has broken an unwritten rule.. but Ince came and played for us after playing at Inter and he wasn't much of a success with us... didn't really do anything IMO. It wasn't until we got Didi on board did we have a decent holding midfielder... So to Owen. His best years are behind him, he won't make the plane to South Africa next year - unless of course he's going to watch...

Its the last desperate action of a man who craves to be where he once was... He was good, very good on occassions, but he was never as good as fowler (IMO) his arrival ruined it for Fowler (again IMO) but alas he has signed for the Scum. Gerrard would never ever do that, and neither would Torres sign for them!

As the saying goes, loyalty is to be rewarded. And I agree with the chap who posted how he cleared off to Madrid only to see us win the ECL the next year... history does repeat itself...

Most people are saying what a clever bit of business this is, shrewd etc etc... lets wait until his first dozen games for them (if he gets to play, and doesn't get injured....) I mean Glenn Hoddle said he was better than Tevez (WTF??) this from a Man who has weird opinions on people with disabilities...

Am I bothered? In a football sense... no. In a loyalty sense... yes. He is now a scum scumbag....

We recon Giggs would of moved to Liverpool in the same cirtcumstances.

There's a lot on here who are more and more sounding like bitter fans.

We might one day know what went on when he went to Madrid and newcastle but since then we/Rafa hasn't wanted him back
there's nothing to be loyal about IMO.

If we were in for him or even the likes of Chavs or Arsenal and he choose united instead then there is grounds for all the comments.
But is looks like he's taken a pay cut and turned down Hull where he would of been played week in week out to play in a team where he'll be rested.

From a footballing point of view he made the right decision.
From a financial - probably not
United have nothing to loose on this.

We weren't in for him or wanted hence nothing to see here lets move on and not be bitter about something we shouldn't really care about.
Its times like these we learn to live again FF

hardest man at birmingham is carsley?

hope he goes into him and puts him out for the season.

someone should ask fabio if owen has a chance of making it next year- S.A.

it would be just perfect if cappello came out and said just before the season starts, that owen is not in his plans and is not what he is looking for.

would probably destroy the little cunt.

I think they do. If he's toilet, or gets a major injury, they will lose money but more importantly, it will be embarassing for them.

The thing is that their reputation is pretty caste iron at this point and their fans will always have numerous recent successes to point to if things go wrong. Given that they have Berbatov and Rooney who have decent injury records, a wealth of decent youth options and the money at this point to still buy in more forwards the risks for them are pretty minimal. Certainly less than they would have been for us.

I'm not sure the risk would have been great for us either - on a two year deal such as he got for United I think risk would have been minimal. I just think Rafa doesn't like him too much after Owen's handling of his sale to Madrid and from Madrid.

Owen doesn't have a great TEAM mentality either IMO.

                  God, you're a pleasant chap.

The bitterness and vitriol directed at Owen in this thread is embarassing.

I'll admit it, I am now a bit scared that Owen will turn out to be a success for United. They will switch to 4-4-2 and Owen, Rooney and Berbatov make a good striketeam.

I really think for us being as we want a backup for two too often injury afflicted players in Torres and Gerrard as a goalscoring option it would be a real risk to spend any money on another crock like Owen. We don't have the money United do so we would probably be limiting out other options added to the fact that given that he has lost his pace now we would have to adapt our style of play when he led the line and I think it starts looking like a risk. Also the fact that United have just won the league three times gives them more leeway to gamble when rebuilding - we still need to win a big trophy with what is now a side that Rafa has more or less designed from the ground up.

Maybe you're right, although we'd have to change formation and I think that would have been a risk - I'll admit to that.

Scratch, Nicey is spot on here, of all the clubs, the little gnome has decided on Mordor. Owen should be embarrassed and ashamed, there aren't enough expletives or vitriol to express how low he has sunk down with the sodomites as far as LFC fans are concerned (and Newcastle fans) from what I'm hearing.

Obviously his move leaves a very bitter taste in the mouth but he said he'd have taken a 100,000 grand a week pay cut to join us. Rafa didnt want him, simple as.

Where would you go Hull or the PL champions?

No doubt he'll score a fair few goals for them but tbh i really dont care. He's not fit to lace Torres' boots and simply wouldnt have fitted into our style of play. Ferguson thinks he can get away with having a passenger like goalscorer in his team, the more modern coaches (like Rafa) feel they need more of a work ethic/team player with more mobility.

I still like him as a player (and for the memories) but he was never my favourite and after he stiffed us (twice) we didnt owe him the chance to resurrect his career. By choosing Newcastle he deserved all the bad luck he's had since.

No-one can persuade me that United have strengthened their attack by bringing him in. Unless they bring in 2 more outstanding forward players they'll be weaker than last year.
