Burnley have made a double loan signing after extending striker David Nugent's deal and acquiring Jack Cork from Chelsea until the end of the season.

Nugent, 24, had been on loan at Turf Moor since the start of the season but was due to return to Portsmouth.

But Pompey, who are in serious financial trouble, were keen to keep Nugent off their wage bill and Burnley have moved to re-sign the forward.

Versatile England under-21 star Cork, 20, can play in midfield or defence.

Cork, son of former Wimbledon and Sheffield United striker Alan, finished a loan spell with Championship side Coventry in December.

He also had loan spells with Southampton, Watford, Scunthorpe and Bournemouth.

Nugent, who has one England cap, has scored three times in 21 appearances for the Clarets this season.

His last goal was an equaliser in the 1-1 home draw against Bolton on Boxing Day.

The former Preston striker had made no secret of his desire to stay at Turf Moor, while new manager Brian Laws made the re-signing of the player one of his immediate aims after taking over.

Burnley have also denied reports that Tyrone Mears is in talks with Sunderland.

The defender had been linked with a move to the Stadium of Light but the Clarets have revealed that they have had no contact with Sunderland.

The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

That must be wrong, surely Celtic can't afford those sort of wages?

Blimey. £7m too. He won't get a game there, surely? Shame this has come so late...I'd've taken Petrov off their hands.
