I'd much rather that 100k a week goalkeeper on the pitch for us while his newly acquired understudy proved he was good enough to replace him.I knew it was never going to happen though, once Mignolet was signed it was always going to be bye bye Pepe.

And after 8 years playing for us, we shouldn't demand that Reina does sit on the bench.
The only consideration is whether Mignolet is better than Reina. Rodgers' thinks so, he's the manager.
I'd prefer Reina to be sold so we can invest in more outfield quality.

there probably isnt that much in it, but reina has probably had a dip and at times looked a little stale.Originally posted by Rich View Post

mignolet is a young lad who has had plenty to do at sunderland. hopefully with some better players around him he will blossom and become a great keeper with us.removing all the weak links makes us stronger
too many gutless players, no beef or desire. pussies everywhere... sack them all.

Reina loan deal is Liverpool evolution, says Rodgers
21 Jul 2013 22:25
LFC manager says Mignolet arrival meant deal made financial sense for club
Brendan Rodgers has defended the decision to off-load Pepe Reina to Napoli as the Liverpool FC boss insisted: “This team is evolving.”
The popular Spanish keeper's eight-year stint as Anfield No 1 is over with Rodgers ready to put his faith in £9million new signing Simon Mignolet.
Having decided that Mignolet would be his first choice this season, the manager says the Reds couldn't justify paying Reina his £110,000 per week wages in order to sit on the bench.
Reina, who is under contract for another three years, is set to go on a season-long loan to the Serie A outfit where he will be reunited with former Liverpool boss Rafa Benitez.
“It's my decision,” said Rodgers.
“Last year I had to make decisions in pre-season for the financial stability of the club and that's something I've obviously had to do this year as well.
“Financially, it is something we needed to look at. I had a good chat with Pepe the other day and he knows where it's at.
“It reared its head over the last few months and I had to prepare for it by bringing in another goalkeeper anyway.
“Pepe is a good guy and I’ve got a lot of time for him. He's been a real pillar for me in terms of how I want to operate.
“But he's got a big season ahead because it’s a World Cup year and one where, if he wasn’t going to be playing, that could severely harm his chances of going to the World Cup. We both understand that.”
With Jamie Carragher having retired in May and now Reina departing, the Reds have lost two leaders and an abundance of experience in recent months. However, Rodgers is unconcerned.
“It doesn't worry me at all,” he said.
“We brought Kolo Toure in who is loud in the dressing room and we have others who can step up to the mark. We will get players who will come in and be hungry.
“Pepe has a great history with the club. He's been a lynchpin but the team and the club are evolving.
“There won't ever be anyone who is bigger than the football club. I've not overly worried about someone's standing, I'm worried about performance.”
Finances may have dictated not keeping Reina at Anfield as a deputy but it's clear that the decision to replace him with Mignolet is based solely on Rodgers' belief that the Belgian represents a better long-term option for the Reds.
Liverpool arrived in Melbourne yesterday after kicking off their pre-season tour with a 2-0 win over an Indonesia XI in Jakarta on Saturday.
Luis Suarez reported for duty Down Under as planned and Rodgers will hold talks with the striker about his future ahead of Wednesday's friendly against Melbourne Victory. Fellow Uruguayan Sebastian Coates has also linked up with the squad.
“I'm looking forward to seeing Luis,” Rodgers said.
“He's a player I have always supported. I understand his situation but the bottom line is he's employed by the football club.”
Jay Spearing, who was an unused substitute on Saturday, is holding talks with Blackburn Rovers about a potential move to the Championship club.
Liverpool's chief scout Barry Hunter has flown out to Melbourne to provide Rodgers and managing director Ian Ayre with an update on the club's pursuit of transfer targets.

I don'tOriginally posted by peekay View PostI wouldn't read too much into Br's quote about this entire situation mate. It was a very complicated situation and there was nothing else he could have said at that point.
I said it long time ago even before we officially signed Mignolet that we wouldn't spent 9m on 2nd GK.
The writting was on the wall all along.
My remark was about BR talking about competition one day and then about "obviously" we couldn't keep him around due to financial constraints next day.
That's all.Member #1 of the Luis Suarez fan club

I agree Mostar, in my opinion, it'll be hard for me to believe him in the immediate future, in particular to his Suarez comments...Originally posted by Mostar View PostI don't

Bloody hell!
Do you want him to lay out everything that goes on inside the club? What happened to the idea of the Liverpool way of keeping everything in-house?
In his position only a fool would be open about everything. I don't mind at all if he's not telling us the whole story..
Suppose you have a physicist and a sociologist standing at the side of a field, observing a set of events unfolding on the field. The physicist does [describes] it using the terminology of mass and velocity and frequency of radiation and the rest. And the sociologist does it by describing it as a rugby match.
May the Lord bless this post.

Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers rules out a loan move for Napoli target Pepe Reina
22 Jul 2013 14:01
Spanish shot-stopper has fallen down the Anfield pecking order after the arrival of Simon Mignolet from Sunderland
Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers has ruled out a loan move for Pepe Reina - claiming it's permanent or nothing.
The Spanish shot-stopper is heading for the Anfield exit door after the signing of Simon Mignolet from Sunderland - with Napoli looking his most likely destination.
But The Kop boss had ruled out a loan move - and yesterday claimed Reina needs to be sold to get him off the wage bill.
"Nothing as of yet," Rodgers said when asked of the latest on Reina, reports the Metro.
"The latest was that there was an offer to take him on loan but that’s something that hasn’t been discussed any further."
