If he wasn't such a cool bloke to have around the training ground as has been reported both here and for the Spanish National Team, I'd seriously contemplate looking at a long term replacement.

He's living off his past reputation, but also showing signs that he still has that top class quality in him. It's a difficult one. I still have faith in him, but it's nowhere near as strong as before, since this 'decline' has gone on since Hodgson was here.

We also cannot forget that Pepe Reina has gone from smashing Real Madrid and Man Utd in their own backyard to seeing the club on the brink of bankruptcy and a false start under Dalglish. His motivation may have dropped massively since then. The calibre of player being targeted has also dropped since then.

Just very difficult to assess Reina.

His shot stopping is not great but it wasn't such an issue when we played cautious defensive football like we did most of the time under Rafa. : p

Angles I think. If defenders are placed in such a way, it could influence what he sees or how late he sees the ball.
        Are we winning?

Why? Some pretty bad mistakes in the first half of that, all from the last year too, not sure why we should ignore them?

Meanwhile the second half shows how good he was for us a few years ago. And rather repudiates the thing about his shot stopping never being that great, I always thought his positioning was so good he rarely had to make highlight reel saves, but when called upon he usually came up with the goods. Nowadays I genuinely don't expect him to save most shots that are anything above tame. That's not good for a supposedly top class goalkeeper. We need to figure out what the issue has been with him and get it properly sorted. Not admitting this has been, and could continue to be, an issue of some sort, would not be very sensible of us imo.

The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

If we decide to replace him then I hope we don't do it with Jack Butland. He may be a prospect but theres too much risk

Michel Vorm is the best keeper in the league nowadays

Vorm is excellent and fantastic on the ball too.

Pepe deserves at least the rest of this season to get back to where we all know he can be and I'd rather see us do business in other areas first.

If he's still not getting back to his best come the summer then if we get a large offer and we can replace him with someone that offers more fine but I don't want to see an expensive risk coming in to replace him

I agree that Pepe has been poor for the last season or two, my only fear with getting rid of him is that the gap he would leave personality wise in the dressing room.

We seem to be largely a characterless team (the odd exception aside) and I think it shows sometimes in our play.

if we sell reina and go for a top keeper me thinks utd would enter the bidding for Vorm or who ever we try to sign as i think they are waiting to get rid of de gea...hell they might even go for Reina
