    Or maybe it was Rodgers.

I doubt it was Rodgers decision, he's spoken openly about the two being in competition and seems like the type of bloke that would relish any conversation with a player

He also came out and said it was for financial reasons, something he need not concern himself with.

EDIT: I think Arn has a point and is being dismissed too easily, if those quotes are true then it would make sense if it was Ayre rather than Rodgers. Players don't usually refer to the manager as "the club" but when talking about executives and the likes they often do. He could have meant the club as in everyone but with Ayre being in charge of all the contracts the past few years then it makes a lot of sense he's talking about him.

And we know for a fact that Rodgers/Ayres didn't set a deadline for waiting for an offer from Barca but Reina didn't commit to signing a new contract so we were forced to act?

Or maybe he is spinning us a yarn.

There's no way he wasn't party to the decision.

It would have been naive and stupid if the club if they had not acted. Reina said he might leave. You think any other big club would have acted differently?

thats not what i was expecting.

agreeing to loan pepe without telling him first is very disrespectful.

Yeah, I don't really care tbh. Very good player for us over the years but he wanted to leave (for Barca) so he was replaced. In the end he is going to a good club with a familiar manager to play CL football and I don't believe for one minute that he was completely in the dark about the possibility of joining them. Nobody died, he'll be fondly remembered by all I'm sure.

Shame for him to leave that way. All the best at Napoli Pepe, you were one of my favourite Liverpool players of this era. Certainly one of the nicest guys that's played for us in many years. For a few years I don't think there was a better keeper in the world.

Maybe, but I think it was clear pretty early in the window (possibly even before it opened) that Valdes was staying at Barca. At that point Pepe may well have been expecting the offer of a new contract from the club to put an end to the matter. Clearly he is disappointed and I do sympathise with him.

you can see this both ways, it doesnt make financial sense for the club, but also that BR needs to clear the decks so he can stamp his own authority on the club.
